Obituary of Sarah Frances Dumenil, Lee County, Iowa Contributed to the Lee County Iowa GenWeb Archives by Stephen Brian HODSON. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Obituary of Sarah Frances Makinney [McKinney] Dumenil Daily Gate City (*Constitution*), Keokuk, Iowa December 20, 1941 AGED COUNTY RESIDENT DIES MRS. DUMENIL OF NEAR MONTROSE WAS 95 YEARS OLD Mrs. Sarah Frances Dumenil, one of the oldest residents of southern Lee County, died at 7:40 o’clock this morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Spahr, south of Montrose, with whom she had made her home for several years. Had she lived until next January 13, she would have been 96 years of age. A daughter of John and Bashaba Wilkins Makinney [sic], she was born on January 13, 1847 at Eaton, O. She came to Lee County 88 years ago and spent the rest of her life in the Argyle and Montrose communities. She was married at Sandusky on February 22, 1880 to Lewis [sic] Volney Dumenil, who preceded her in death on January 3, 1930. She had been a member of the Baptist church formerly located at Argyle. Surviving are one son, John Dumenil of Keokuk; a daughter, Mrs. John Spahr of near Montrose; and three grandchildren. One son, Lewis [sic], died on November 17, 1924. The body was removed to the Pearson Funeral Home where it will remain until time for the funeral services which will be conducted by Brunat’s from the Methodist Church at Montrose on Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock.
