The said declarations and presentation being made in the presence of Georges BEUCLER aged 36, also a planter residing at Bart, and Jean Georges CHARPIOT, aged 44 years, weaver residing at Bart; and having witnessed the father [these witnesses] have signed with us the present certificate of birth which afterwards was entered into record. He is said to have died as a result of a scalding received at a Keokuk, Iowa packing plant. ______________________________________________________ Probate Packet B-3 (1862) Lee County Courthouse; Fort Madison, Iowa I, Peter Bucler [sic], of the township of Des Moines in the county of Lee and state of Iowa do make and publish this, my last will and testament, in manner and form following, that is to say: 1st. It is my will that all my just debts be paid as soon after my decease as my executrix hereafter to be named can conveniently do it. 2nd. I give, devise, and bequeath to my wife, Mary Catherine, in lieu of her dower if she should so elect, the farm upon which I now reside, embracing eighty acres and being described as the west 1/2 of the n.w.1/4 of section No. 1 in township 66N of range No. 6 west, together with all the improvements thereon during her natural life; and all the live stock, horses, cattle and swine by me now owned and kept thereon; also all the household furniture and farming utensils during her said life; she first however disposing of a sufficiency thereof to pay my just debts if necessary. And that at the death of my said wife, all the property hereby devised or bequeathed to her as aforesaid or so much thereof as remains unexpended I give unto my children P.F. Bucler [sic], Louis Eugene Bucler, John P. Bucler [sic], Elizabeth Bucler, Adaline Bucler, Mary Lydia Bucler and to their heirs and assigns forever. And last I hereby constitute and appoint my said wife to be the executrix of this, my last will and testament, and that she give neither bond nor security as such, save only the usual oath of fidelity to duty as such executrix. Warwick Legal Notice The State Of Iowa (SS) In County Court County Of Lee Said County Peter Bucler, dec’d Notice is hereby given that on the 2nd day of June A.D. 1862 an instrument in writing purporting to be the last will and testament of said decedent was produced, opened and read in said court and the first Monday in July next fixed by said court as the day on which proof of the genuineness of said instrument will be heard at which time and place all persons interested may be heard. Fort Madison, June 5th 1862 Robert A. Russell County Judge, Lee County, Iowa State Of Iowa (SS) Lee County We, W.S. Cochran and A.L. Warwick, being duly sworn, deposeth and saith as follows, We were present and saw Peter Bucler [sic], testator, subscribe the same to be his last will and testament. We at the same time at the request of the testator and in his presence and in the presence of each other, subscribed our names thereto as the subscribing witnesses. And we further say at the time of signing said will, the testator was of full age, sound mind and disposing memory to the best of our knowledge and belief, and we also state that we have no interest in the estate of said deceased or in the proof of said will.
