Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul's United Methodist church. The Rev. Harlan Gillespie and the Rev. Lloyd Brockmeyer will officiate. Friends may call at the church from 9:30 to service time on Thursday. Inurnment in Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories Mausoleum. Arrangements by Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Virginia was born March 19, 1921, in Nichols, Iowa, to Harry Eugene and Amanda Emma Rummells Shannon. She graduated from West High in Waterloo, Iowa, in 1939, and received a teaching certificate from the University of Northern Iowa. She taught schools in Coggon and Wilton Junction. She married George Kenneth Appleby on Jan. 14, 1945, in Waterloo. They lived in Klamath Falls, Ore., Springfield, Ill., and Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Two sons survive, Robert Michael (Patricia)of Parker, CO., and David Patrick (Ann) of Magnolia, TX. George Appleby died in an airplane accident on Dec. 9, 1971. She married Robert Frink on Aug. 30, 1975, in Cedar Rapids, where they have lived, and who survives. She is also survived by two stepsons, Robert (Nita) Frink Jr of Rock Island, Ill., and Stephen (Barbara) Frink of Key Largo, Fla.; a sister, Elaine (Gene) Train of Clearwater, Fla.; grandchildren, Lori (Ryan) Sinclair, Tera Appleby, Sarah (Duane) Thompson, Brenda (Steve) Tyler, Mollye (Keith) Taylor, Brandon Murray, Ian (Monique) Frink, and Alexa G. Frink; 14 great-grandchildren; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. She was preceeded in death by her parents; her first husband; and a stepdaughter, Theresa Frink. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's United Methodist Church or St. Luke's Hospice.
