Darcy Cedar Rapids, Iowa Born Van Horne, Iowa, January, 1894. Son of Kathryn and Garret Darcy. Motor Trans. Corps, France. Previous service on Mexican Border. Additional Comments: Image has been slightly optimized. ------------------ The Evening Gazette (Cedar Rapids) Oct. 13, 1919, page 3, col. 1 Hero Married Van Horne, Oct. 13. - Lieut Jay Darcy, the only Van Horne soldier decorated in the war, was married to Miss Esther Kelley two weeks ago in New York City and came here last week. They were married by the chaplain of Lieut. Darcy's unit. The bridegroom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Garret Darcy of Van Horne, where he spent most of his life. After his discharge they will live in Chicago. He served with the M. T. C. overseas and received the Belgian war cross for signal bravery under fire, he also has a silver citation star won during the second battle of the Somme. Recognition came to him for driving a motor truck long sleepless hours under fire and through the dangers of shell torn roads.
