Gleason Cedar Rapids, Iowa Born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, November 6, 1885. Daughter of Phoebe and John W. Hayes. Volunteered 1914, at beginning of war in Ambulance Corps for relief work in Belgium, caring for wounded and serving coffee and soup to the soldiers in the trenches. Had charge of relief station at front until they were shelled out. Going from there to La Panne, Belgium, where she worked in Maternity Hospital for relief of Belgian children. While there was decorated by King Albert for bravery on field of battle. On America's entry into the war, she was called to the A. E. F. in France, serving as canteen worker and lecturer. Later placed in charge of "Home Corner of Eagle Hut" in London, Eng., doing Y. M. C. A. work.
