Hanford * Cedar Rapids, Iowa Born in Duluth, Minn., January 3, 1897. Son of Bertha and Harry C. Hanford. Volunteered May 15, 1917. Co. F, 166th Infantry, Rainbow (42d) Division, at Chateau Thierry. Wounded July 29, 1918 at second battle of Marne by machine gun bullet; died August 1, 1918. Cited for bravery for leading his men through fierce machine gun fire at Seringer-et-Nisles by commander of Rainbow Division; also for exceptional gallantry and valor by Gen. Pershing.
