Adamson, John W. (p. 440) Born in Henry County, Iowa May 12, 1870, son of W. S. and Rebecca A. Adamson, both natives of Ohio. His father died 19 February 1908. His siblings: Annie (married L.E. Bush of Packwood, Ia); Grant H. of Ottumwa; and John W. Purchased 138 acres in Columbus City Twp. Louisa County in 1902. He married Rosa Rahmiller 5 September, 1895, daughter of Fred and Louisa (Irving) Rahmiller. They had six children: Edith b. 28 July 1896; Vern b. 3 October 1897; Walter b. 18 December 1898, d. 23 December 1909; Flossie, b. 17 September 1990; Pearl b. 5 September 1902; Lela b. 22 December 1905.. Alburn, Fred (p. 533) Fred Alburn was b. 9 March 1875, the son of Henry N. and Elizabeth (Waugh) Alburn, the former born in York, Pennsylvania and the latter in Ohio. Father came to Iowa in 1854 and lived at Columbus City, a stonemason by trade. He died 12 November 1906 Siblings of Fred Alburn were: Edward, Charles and Monta. Aronhalt, G.W. (p.223) Born in Ohio on the 17th of July, 1844, the son of John and Margaret (McKi) Aronhalt, natives of Ohio and Scotland respectively. Came to Marshall Twp., Louisa County in 1854. One sister Mary J. married John Higgins of Louisa County. G.W. married Louisa Bevens, 28 May 1851, the daughter of Asher and Ann (Stafford) Bevens. Her parents, natives of Ohio and Delaware respectively, were married in Peoria County, Illinois and came to Iowa in 1856. G.W. and Louisa Aronholt had two children: Charles b. 21 August 1875, d. 31 July 1878 and Arthur b. 3 January 1880. Arthur was married 25 February 1904 to Amy Deal, b. in Henry County, Iowa , the daughter of William and Jennie (Snyder) Deal. They had one daughter Vivian Marie b. 7 September 1906. Arthur, E.H. (p. 176) Evan H. Arthur was born 9 August 1875, the son of Hugh and Elizabeth J. (Jones) Arthur. He had a brothers John William L. Arthur. On 27 January 1909 he married Ruth Peters in Louisa County. They had one daughter Eveline, b. 30 November 1909. Ruth was the daughter of Richard and Gwendolyn Peters. She was one of nine children, her siblings: Jennie, married Arthur Williams and lived in Wayne, Nebraska; Lewis, Louisa Co.; Annie m. John Arthur of Louisa County; Richard, Louisa Co.; Lizzie, Belle, Daniel, and Mary. Arthur, Hugh (p.554) Hugh Arthur, agriculturist, born in Wales. Married Elizabeth J. Jones, born in Ohio. Hugh died 25 January 1896. Eight children, six living until maturity, namely, Sarah Jane; William L.; Evan H.; Richard; John; and Catherine. Arthur, John (p. 554) John Arthur was born 31 May 1877, in Louisa County, the son of Hugh and Elizabeth J. (Jones) Arthur. John married 28 December 1901 to Anna Peters, a native of Wales and a daughter of Richard and Winifred Peters who were also born in Wales. They emigrated to the U.S. when Anna was a child and settled in Louisa Co. The subject and his wife had two children: Hugh S. and Grace. Arthur, Richard (p. 317) Richard Arthur, born 17 September 1879, son of Hugh and Elizabeth (Jones) Arthur. married 2 April 1910 to Esther E. Williams, a native of Washington Co., Iowa and a daughter of Elias and Maggie Williams. They had five children. Arthur, W.L. (p. 540) Born 23 January 1869, son of Hugh and Elizabeth (Jones) Arthur. W.L. Arthur was married on 5 March 1891 to Nellie B Davis, daughter of J.R. and Jane Florence (Word) Davis. William and Nellie had eleven children, two of whom died in infancy: Hugh, Clifford, Milo, Florence, Edith, Luther, Tudor, Elizabeth Ann and Richard John. Baker, J.G. (p. 101) James Geddes Baker was born in Louisa County 12 March 1868, son of Benjamin Stephen and Nancy Agnes (Wykert) Baker. The father was a native of New York State and the mother of West Virginia, becaming a resident of Louisa County in 1835. Proficient in the photography and had a photograph gallery in Columbus Jct, where he settled in 1907. J.G. had one brother Benjamin Franklin, also who lived in Louisa County. In 1895, James G. Baker married 1)Clara Elizabeth Grafe, a daughter of Theodore and Elizabeth Grafe. Mrs. Baker died in the fall of 1898, leaving a son James Walter, born February 1898. On 11 May 1907, he married 2) Bessie Forbes, daughter of William C. and Henrietta (Kincaid) Forbes. She was one of thirteen children. Baker, J.L. (p. 542) J.L. Baker was born 10 March 1851, a son of William and Matilda (Gullette) Baker both natives of Georgia. His siblings were: Julia, wife of W.P. Marsden of Columbus City; Thomas A. of Oklahoma; Louisa C., the widow of W.K. Moore of Columbus Junciton; Dulcina L., the widow of J. Heindel of Los Angeles, California. Mrs. Baker was twice married, secondly to W.W. Paschall by whom she had one son D.R. Paschall of Des Moines. J.L. Baker married Ella Barrington, daughter of Abraham and Catharine (McCoy) Barrington, on the 29 November 1878. They had five children: Ralph E., graduate of engineering at Iowa State and moved to Chicago; Lyle T. of Louisa Co.; Julia Alice; and William Harland Ball, Abner (Data provided by Keith Street) Abner Ball, son of Davis and Rhoda (Woodcock) Ball, born on October 25,1832, married (1) in Louisa County in 1854 to Mary Jane Wykert, daughter of Francis and Elizabeth Jane (Chubb) Wykert; Abner and Jane had four children, one dying in infancy; Franklin, dying at age 7. Surviving to adulthood were Almond T. and John M. Abner Ball was married (2) Almeda Huffman and had children Ruth, who died at age two, and sons Alvah and Wilbur A. Rhoda Woodcock Ball was the daughter of Alanson Lansing Woodcock. Abner's sister, Eunice Almira Ball born November 22, 1833, married Amzi Donaldson. Almira died in 1914, survived by a son, C. M. Donaldson and a daughter Mrs. J.W. Morgan. Bantle, Leonard (p. 122) Leonard Bantle was born 10 September 1862 in Mercer County, Illinois, the son of John and Betty Ann (Westfall) Bantle, the former a native of Germany and the latter of Iowa. John Bantle lost his life in the civil War and his wife passed away two years later when Leonard was only severn years old. He was raised by an uncle Richard Bantle of Mercer County, Ill. In 1883, he came first to Huron Twp., Des Moines Co, Iowa to the farm left him by his father. Fifteen years later, he came to Louisa Co. Leonard Bantle was married three times 1) Nettie Harris, daughter of Isaac Harris, by whom he had one daughter Vada b. 17 September 1884, who married Roy Fisher 2)Helma Nyberg, a native of Illinois who died in March 1903 leaving two sons and a daughter, namely John Harland, b. 1888, d. 1910; Orville Leonard, b. 1890 and Ida Blanche. 3) Mrs Mary Jacoby, the widow of Reuben Jacoby. Barnett, W.T. (p. 520) William T. Barnett was born in Corydon, Wayne Co, Iowa 10 March 1853 and was the son of Rev. William and Judith (Saunders) Barnett. His father was a native of Kentucky and his mother of Virginia. He was a brakeman on the Missouri,Kansas and Texas Railroad for two years and then became a telegraph operator and ticket agent and was assigned agent at Lineville,Iowa, whence he came to Letts, in Louisa County. He married 1) Minnie Taylor, a native of Unionville, by whom he had one son Ethan A. b. in 1879 who subsequently married and had one child Helen. He married 2) Katie Freeland who was born at Grandview, Iowa, the daughter of Isaac and Julia Freeland. They had three children, Julie and Helen J., d. young and a son Jay Lincoln b. in 1890. The Rev. Barnett was the captain on a boat on the Ohio river until 1848 when he came west. He died 1896 and his wife died in 1903. They had seven children: Maggie, widow of J.C. Chambers of Corydon, William T., above; M.C., who married L.K. Shell of Corydon; A.N. a resident of Cambria, Iowa; E.A. the wife of M.C. Rush; George M., of Centerville, Iowa and J.M. of Des Moines. Isaac and Julie Freeland were married in Grandview and had a mercantile business there. They had three children: Albia, who had a mercantile business in Fontana, Kansas; T.L who was in the same business with his brother and Katie who married W.T. Barnett. Barrick, D.E. (p. 175) Daniel E. Barrick, born 5 October 1866, Cumberland Co., Pennsylvania, the son of George W. and Mary Jane (Mixell) Barrick. Siblings: Harvey; Laura Bell, wife of D.S. Devore; Samuel C. also of Louisa Co.; Susan R., wife of Adam Henderson of Green Spring, Pa.; and Merven E. of Boulder, Colorado; His father married 2) Mrs. Susan (Griffin) Reese, by whom he had Lillian Gertrude, who married Wilbur Stoner of Carlisle, Pennsylvania and Cora E. who lived in Wapello, Iowa. Daniel married M. DeEtte Smith, daughter of Samuel Hayden and Mary Ann (Tinkham) Smith on 25 February 1891. They had three children Fern Marie, b. 15 May 1892; Ray b. 18 March 1894; and Leslie Clair b 17 February 1896, d. 5 September 1897. Beik, C.F. (p. 433) Charley F. Beik was born in Port Louisa Township, Louisa Co. on 3 April 1865, the son of Jacob and Emma (Jackson) Beik. the latter a native of Germany. Siblings: Molly, wife of John Hardman of Lousia Co.; Frank L.; John; and two who died in infnancy Mr. Beik m. 2) Verda Hardley of Illinois and by her, he had six more children: Emma, wife of I.E. Downer of Muscatine; Kate m. Henry Sweitzer of Louisa Co.; Arthur, a Louisa County teacher; Grace m. George Webber; Herald; and Paul. On 21 April 1909, he married Susan Zimmerman, who was born in Louisa County in 1879, the daughter of John and Mary Zimmerman. Her siblings were: Charley; Emma, married James Green of Columbus City; Dallas of Grandview; Bert; George; Minnie, who married Celly Ross and died 16 April 1898; and Nina May. Frank L. Beik was born in Port Louisa Twp on 25 June 1872, son of Jacob and Emma (Jackson) Beik. Married 12 April 1894 to Mollie Kammerer, born in Louisa County, daughter of J. and Caroline (Charles) Kammerer, natives of Germany. Her siblings were: John; Harry, Bert, Charley, Otto Kammerer. Frank and Mollie had five chilren: Marcus b. 24 June 1895; Emma C. b. 5 January 1899; Bertha M. b. 23 November 1900; Leona b. 8 July 1907 and Lucille I. b. 29 January 1911. Beik, Jacob (p.236) Jacob Beik was born in Germany in May 1832, the son of Frederick and Sarah (Schneider) Beik, both natives of Baden, Germany. The family emigrated to America in 1845. His father died 23 August 1884 and his mother died two years later. He had five siblings: Frederick born in Germany, died in California; Sarah, married Mr. Benz of Muscatine; George and Katharine. He married 1)Emma H. Jackson on 18 June 1863, by whom he had six children: Charles, Mollie, Frank L., John J. and two infants. She died 12 November 1875. He married 2)23 March 1877 to Alverda A. Handley, born New Boston, Illinois, the daughter of Eli and Katherine (Denison) Handley, both natives of Indiana. Alverda had a sister Elizabeth R., who married George Weiderecht. By Alverda, Jacob had six more children: Emma G., Katie B., Arthur K.; Grace E.; Harold J.; and Paul D. Jacob Beik died 18 May 1908. Beik, J.J. (p. 531) John J. Beik, also the son of Jacob and Emma Jackson Beik was born 16 June 1875, lived with his grandmother after his mother died and made his home with her as an adult. He managed the lumber and coal yard of the W. G. Block Company and bought the business in 1910. Benz, J.W. (p.158) Jacob W. Benz was born 14 December 1866, the son of Mathias and Lucy (Schneider) Benz. His father was from Baden Germany and his mother from Lancaster Co., Pennsylvania. Siblings: Lydia, married W.F. Nelson; Mollie, married H. J. Jeffries of Muscatine; Annie married O.J. Derby; Albert died at age of eight; and Zula, deceased wife of J.W. Hintermeister. Jacob married Nettie Beik on 18 February 1904. She was born 20 April 1866, the daughter of Louis and Lovey (Godfrey) Beik. Her father was born in Baden, Germany, but they were married in Louisa County. her siblngs were: Luella married C.W. Graham of Grandview; May married C.E. Wilson. Jacob and Nettie had one child Nola May born 27 June 1907, but they raised his sister's son Hershal Oliver Hintermeister after his mother's death. Bigger, J.A.P. (p. 415) John Anson Penniman Bigger was born in Washington County Pennsylvania in 1875, the son of John M. and Kate (McVey) Bigger. The family came to Iowa in 1887. On 25 June 1902, he was married to Edna Blanche Jamison. They had one son Merritt Shannon born 3 March 1904. Mrs. Bigger was the daughter of Merritt I. and Mary Ella (Whitcomb) Jamison. Billick, L.A. (p. 307) Louis A. Billick was born January 5, 1872 in Lousia County. He was the son of James and Susan (Jacobs) Billick, the father a native of Pennsylvania and the mother of Virginia. He married 10 March 1905 to Maud Sheridan, the only child of Abner and Rosetta (Maxwell) Sheridan. They had three children: Louis Raymond b. 1 September 1906; Eva Ruth, b. 2 November 1907 and Leland Bruce b. 9 July 1908. Blanchard, J.E. (p. 267) James E. Blanchard was born in Oswego County, New York on the 13 of July 1831, the son of Timothy and Mary (Holmes) Blanchard, also natives of New York. His siblings were: Lesha; Holmes; James E; Jacob; Esther; Elizabeth married George Bolton of Louisa County.; Caroline, married Mayland Starks of Missouri; Calvin; and Timothy also of Missouri. Mr. Blanchard married Tamson Welch on 20 October 1856. She died 19 May 1901. They had four children: Alfa; Ida married John Morris of Davis County, Iowa; Leota, married Charles Stone; and Charles who was the editor of the Christian Union of Des Moines. Bollenbach, C.J. (p. 494) Charles J. Bollenbach ws born 24 September 1871, the son of Charles and Barbara (Wenegar) Bollenbach. He married 24 September 1895 to Anna M. Clements, the daughter of Samuel and Mary (Vogel) Clementz. She died 16 May 1911 and was buried at Arlington Heights, Illinois. They had two children: Laurene b. 20 May 1901 and Laverne b. 9 June 1904. He was a blacksmith. Boltz, Joseph (p. 80) Joseph Boltz was born 20 June 1834 in Lebanon County, Pennsylvania, the son of Joseph and Elizabeth (Shires) Boltz, He married Elizabeth Sarah Edwards on 4 June 1865. She was the daughter of Hugh and Eleanor (Williams) Edwards, natives of Wales. His siblings were: Simon who died 1 June 1909; Joseph; William of Lebanon, PA; Catherine, married Samuel Clark of Lebanon; Mary marred R.R. Snavely of Annville, PA; Fannie married William Elliott. Her siblings were Margaret, married Benjamin Jones of O'Brien County; Manassa; Ellen, married John K. Brown of Louisa County; Emma married D.R. Jones of Louisa County; Robert; Edward; Kate, married A. Orris; Mary, married Jake Miller; Baxter; They had six children: Joseph E.; William S.; Eleanor; nancy Emma; Mary Eva; and Oscar. Brady, J. R. (p. 189) John Rudley Brady was born 22 January 1829, the son of John and Rebecca (Rudley) Brady. His father was a native of Ireland. He married Dolly Ann Avery in July 1858, who was the first white girl to be born in Louisa County, the daughter of Solomon and Elmira (Elsworth) Avery, natives of New York state who came to Louisa County in the early '30, being among the first settlers.. They had fifteen children, but only six were named in the history books: Mary Ann; J.C., Frank, William, Robert, and Dennis. Bratton, Allen Wilson (Data provided by Keith Street) Allen Wilson Bratton (1821-1899) married Julia Ann Trusler, in Muskingum County, Ohio. Between 1857 and 1860, the family moved to Mercer County, Illinois and in subsequent years different members of the family spread out along both sides of the Mississippi River in Mercer and Henderson Counties in Iowa. The children were born in Ohio, but came with the family to Illinois and Des Moines Counties in Iowa. The children were born in Ohio, but came with the family to Illinois. Children: ThomasJefferson (1846-1908) who was a soldier in the Civil War, married Minerva Jane Sisk and had six children; Martha married (1) Wm. Loman and (2) James McCall and had two children; John R. (1850-1891), married Anna Elizabeth Freil in Alexis, Illinois, in 1872 and had five children, all born in Warren County, Illinois; James WIlliam (1854-), disappeared from view before 1901; Charles Edward (1857-1928), who married Ida Mamie Coonrod in 1880, who died following childbirth in 1882. Charles Bratton (1857-1928) married 2) in 1884, in Oquawka, Illinois, to Carrie (Caddie) Cabeen. Caddie's uncle was Samuel Haredin, patriarch of the Louisa County Hardin family; one of Samuel's daughters married David Gerst, had 15 children, and has many Louisa County descendants. Charles Edward Bratton had one child by Ida and eight by Caddie: descendants; still live on both sides of the river. Richard Lehnert of Oakville, is a descendant Brockway, James M. (p.5) James M. Brockway married Lydia Goff in Pennsylvania. engaged in lumber business and had a sawmill. Built a raft in 1849 with a cabin on it and with wife and eight children started down the Ohio river for Iowa. Children: Emmet, Marshalltown; Albina m. James R. Letts of Grandview Twp., Louisa Co.; Lafayette: Elmira; Judson; E. Frank; Emmet; and George. Lydia died in 1856. Brockway, Hon. E. Frank Brockway E. Frank Brockway was born 1832, in Brockwayville, Harrison County, Pennsylvania, the son of James M. and Lydia (Goff) Brockway. Married Rowena B. Letts, 11 September 1860. She was born Peru, LaSalle County, Illinois. Her mother died 17 February 1851 and her father remarried in 1853 to Jane Holderman. E. Frank and Rowena Brockway had three children; Elizabeth B.; Alice R.; and James M. Mr. Brockway was a county supervisor and was also a representative in the State Legislature for two years. He was president of the State Fair association for several years. Brockway, Jesse Wilson (Submitted by Jim Bishop) Jesse Wilson BROCKWAY was 2nd child born to James Bird BROCKWAY and Catherine FLINT. Their first child, Ellen Amelia BROCKWAY b. 12 Nov 1857 in Lee, IA, married David Devalson HUNTER, Jr. on 23 Dec 1875 Morning Sun, Louisa, IA (not verified - from grandmother's notes and records). Brown was born in Harrison County, Pennsylvania on 16 May 1858, the son of Abraham and Susan W. (Storks) Brown. The family came west in the fall of 1861. The mother died 3 January 1910 at the age of 79. Siblings of C.A. were: Olivia, m. William Robertson; David N. of Martinsburg; Missouri; John; Mary E. m. J.R. Watson; and Carrie. C.A. married 20 March 1884 to Emma Ernsting, the daughter of Louis and Dorothy (Reuter) Ernsting, both born in Germany. Her father died 3 December 1905. Siblings of Emma were: Henry; Lena, m. Thomas Myers; Minnie m. H.B. Carter of Oakville. Children of C.A. and Emma Brown were: Ora C.; Pearl E.; and Bessie Leona. Brown, F.P. (p.177) F.P. Brown was born 15 August 1852, the son of Isaac N. and Hester A.(Storks) Brown, the former a native of Circleville, Ohio and the latter of Maryland. The mother came to this county in 1863 locating on a farm in Elliott twp. where she raised three children. F.P. Brown married 5 September 1875 to Julia B. Schultz, a native of Indiana, the daughter of John and Hester (Robinson) Schultz. Her father was born in France and her mother in Ohio. John Schultz was a Civil War Veteran. While F.P. and Julia had no children of their own, they raised an adopted son P.T. Brown. Brown, H.P. (p. 456) Hugh P. Brown was born in Union County Indiana on the 15th of January 1835, a son of Mathew and Julia (Brumage) Brown, the former a native of North carolina and the latter of Virginia. Siblings of H.P. were: N.J. of Dallas Co., Iowa; Thomas M. of Letts; and Emily m. Sidney Davis of North Bend, Wisconsin. Hugh P. married 31 December 1855 to Nancy J. Lee, a native of Ohio, daughter of Richard and Nancy J. (Ward) Lee. Her father was Irish, died in Ohio and in 1853, her mother brought the family to Iowa locating two miles west of Letts in Louisa County. H.P. and Nancy Brown had four children: Laura b. 16 October 1856 m. William M. Griffin of Letts; Elnora, b. 22 October 1858, m. Thomas E. Norris of Nichols, Iowa; Cordelia b. 3 November 1860 m. George W. Hankins of Muscatine Co.; and Guy W. b. 27 April 1875. Brown, I.E. (p. 149) I.E. Brown was born in Ohio on the 22 November 1867, the son of John and Elizabeth (Bird) Brown, natives of Ohio. Came to Louisa County ca. 1869. Siblings: John W., Indiana; Seymour J. of Fort Dodge; and Newton J. I.E. Brown married 30 September 1888 to Harriet L. Moon, daughter of William and Czrena Moon. They had five children; Edith M.; Irene Gertrude; Myrtle Elizabeth; Raymond Elsworth, and Geneva May. Brown, J.K. (p. 208) John K. Brown was born 30 May 1839, Freeport , Harrison Co., Ohio, son of James K. and Mary (Dryden) Brown. The parents came to Louisa County, Iowa in September 1853 with seven children. Only one sister of John K. is known Josephine who married John Woodruff in Arkansas. John K. Brown married 2 October 1861 in Louisa County to Ellenor Edwards, who was born in Brooklyn, New York on 28 December 1843, the daughter of Hugh and Ellen (Williams) Edwards. Her parents born in Wales had three children when they emigated to America in 1840. They settled in Morning Sun Twp, Louisa County in 1858 where the father died 13 February 1893 and the mother passed away 29 March 1899. Children of J.K. Brown: Ora A., m. Albert H. Bozman; Dora E., m. Lee Marshall; Hugh L., Henry Co., Ia; Laura A; Albert S. of Idaho and Bert D. Brown, T.M. (p. 394) Thomas H. Brown born 24 December 1832, Union Co. Indiana; the son of Mathew and Julia F. (Bromage) Brown. His father was a native of North Carolina b. 1806 while the mother was a Virginian b. 1810, they m. in Indiana in 1827. Siblings: H.P., Letts; N.J., Dallas Co., IA; and Emily m. SIdney Davis of North Bend, Wisc. Thomas H. married 3 July 1856, Sophia Ferry, native of New York, daughter of Silas and Flavia (French) Ferry, the mother, a native of Massachusetts and the father of Pennsylvania. Her Siblings: Sarah P., m. John Lambert of Guthrie Co.; Henry I. ; and Flavia m. Josiah Ballet of Oxford, Nb. T.H. and Sophia Brown had nine children: Edwin B., Henry; Cora; Horace; Myra, m. Louis Norris; Julia W. m. Sully Blake; Hugh; Vesta m. Ivan Hadley of Muscatine; Lucius, m. Blanche Shellabarger, of Letts. Brown, W.L. (p. 235) William L. Brown, b. 16 January 1866, son of Dr. I.C. and Ruth Ann (Hamlet) Brown, natives of Philadelphia, Tennessee and Plainfield, Indiana respectively. Father d. 1900, age 65; mother d. October 1909. William T. Brown m. 27 April 1893, to Bina Barringer, daughter of S.E. and Mary (Stark) Barringer. Her siblings were: Blanche m. Alvin Simons; and Belle m. Ab Sherridan of Columbus Junction. W.T. Brown's children: Egbert DeWayne b. 15 June 1894; Helen Lenore, b.20 December 1895; Ruth Ann b. 15 February 1898; and William Thomas, Jr. b. 15 July 1901. Browning, Jeremiah (p. 405) Jeremiah Browning b. 19 November 1825 in New Jersey, the son of William and Grace (Fish) Browning. Both paternal and maternal grandparents lived near Philadelphia and his parents lived in Gloucester County, New Jersey until 1839. Jeremiah married 1)Mary Randleman in 1854, she d. in 1859; three sons: George, William and John. He m. 2) Sarah Walker in 1870 and had six children:Susan; Edith; Mary; Grace; Charley; and Ethel Buffington, Richard (Data provided by Keith Street) John and Alice Buffington/Bovington born circa 1510 in the Parish of Penn in England, later moved to Marlowe on the Thames in 1573. The Buffington family had lived in the Parish of Penn since before 1200. Richard Buffington, b. 30 May 1654, a ggg grandson of John and Alice emigrated to West Jersey in 1675 to what is now Chester County, Pennsylvania by 1677. He settled at Upland, now Chester Co. before William Penn's grant. Richard Buffington first married, probably in England, to Anne. Richard and Anne had ten children before she died; Richard remarried and had three more children by his second wife, Frances, widow of John Grubb. Richard became a Baptist in 1699, although some of his children remained Quakers. Buffington, Thomas Thomas Buffington, son of Richard and Anne, born in Chester Co., Pennsylvania between 1680 and 1685, m. 1) Ruth Cope Thomas and Ruth had a total of nine children. Ruth died in 1728; Thomas died in 1739. The Cope lineage can be traced back to Charlemagne. Buffington, WIlliam William Buffington, son of Thomas and Ruth, ca. 1710 in Chester County, Pennsylvania, married (1) Alice Rupp (2) Magdalena Ferree (3) Mary, widow of Christopher Smith, and had children by all three wives. One of William's children by Magdalena Ferree was Joel, from whom some of the Louisa County Buffingtons descend. The Ferree family was of Huguenot descent and can be traced for hundreds of years with a Dubois connection. William moved to Lancaster County, Pennsylvania and then to Hampshire County, Virginia (now West Virginia), where he died in 1784. Joel Buffington became the wealthy Buffington, building on the Savage grant land that had been obtained by William. Joel was the purchaser (disputed) of the Island of Duvol, which was renamed Buffington Island after him. This island is in the Ohio RIver and has been under the jurisdiction of several counties in Virginia, West Virginia and Ohio. It is presently an Ohio state park. Buffington, Joel Joel Buffington married Elizabeth Logan, who had Indian ancestry. Joel and Elizabeth had nine children. The 1850 Federal Census of Iowa for Louisa County lists four Buffingtons as Head of Household. Abraham C., age 22, a grandson of the above Joel (his father was another Abraham); James Q, 35, also a grandson of Joel (his father was Joseph); Philip J., 47, a grandson of Joel (his father was Joseph); Nancy 27, widow of Samuel Wilson Buffington (his father was Joseph). This was the Joseph Buffington who married (1) Chloe Harvey and had Elizabeth, Mary Ann, Susannah, Margaret, Amelia, Chloe, Amanda, Magdalene, William H., Joseph F., Phillip J., James Q., Samuel Wilson and Abraham Columbus. Members of the Buffington family first came to Louisa County in 1837. They also had land in Van Buren, Mahaska and Lucas Counties, and perhaps others as well. Several died prior to the 1850 Census already cited, and at least four had been buried in the private Buffington Cemetery in Elm Gorve Township of Louisa County. Both Joseph and Chloe were there, as well as their son Daniel Wilson Buffington and his sister-in-law Mary. Siblings: James; Frank; and Thomas. His father d. when he was seventeen. He married November 1876 to Julia A. McCarthy, b. 22 February 1851 in Boston, d. 3 October 1910. She was the daughter of Daniel and Mary (Donohue) McCarthy and came to Iowa with her parents in 1862. They had two children, both of whom d. in infancy. Cotter, Richard (p. 306) Richard Cotter was born 14 April 1844 in Franklin Co., New York, the son of William and Mary (Brodrick) Cotter, natives of County Cork, Ireland. They first settled in New York where they resided until 1850, moved to Kankakee, Illinois and on to Louisa Co., Ia. in 1863. Evelyn; and Lola G. b. 9 January 1911. Darrow, William H., M.D. (p.131) William H. Darrow, M. D. was born in Summit County, Ohio, 17 August 1842, son of George and Harriet Walker Darrow. Came to Louisa Co. with his parents in 1845. He died 15 July 1894. He was one of fourteen children. He graduated from Medical School in 1859 and served in the Civil War. On 20 November 1871, he married Emily F. Weaver, daughter of Erastus and Mary Elizabeth (Marshall) Weaver. Her siblings were : Mary Elizabeth m. Reese Sellers; Laura and Annie, both d. as infants; Lucy m. E.S. Briggs; Clara m. Dr. C.B. Allen; H.O., an attorney; Henrietta m. August Salmon of Col. Jct.; and Alice, who died in infancy. Dr. and Mrs. Darrow had one son, John D. b. 31 December 1877 who married Edie Klotz of Louisa County in 1900 and had two children: Helen F. b. 5 August 1909 and William H. b. 13 June 1911. Davies, D.D. (p. 255) D.D. Davies, b. 12 March 1842 in Wales, son of Thomas and Esther Davies, Was eight years old when his parents came to America and settled in Madison Co., New York. He served in the Civil War.and in 1868 he and his wife came to Louisa Co. He married 5 September 1865, in New York, to Jane Jones, also b. in Wales, the daughter of Thomas and Rachel Jones of Wales. Jane d. 12 April 1895 and is buried in the Cambrian Cemetery. D.D. and Jane Davies had six children: Mary J., m. J.E. Morgan; David E.; Rachel M., m. J.E. Morgan of Mahaska Co.; Esther Ann and Margaret Ann; and Thomas L. Davis, John J. (p. 222) John J. Davis was born 10 August 1844 in Wales, the son of John H. and Ann Davis, also of Wales. The parents came to the U.S. in 1861 and had six children: Mary S., Rachel m. Evan Edwards: John J. of the review; H. J.; and two who d. young. John J. married Dorothy Evans, also a native of Wales by whom he had five children: J.M.; H. H.; Walter C.Anna m. John G. Thomas; and Price. Davis, James R. (p. 547) James R. Davis was born 15 October 1838 in Wales, the son of David G. and Eleanor (Jones) Davis, both natives of Wales. The family came to the U. S. in 1841 and first settled in Butler County, Ohio. James R. served in the Civil War and came to Columbus Junction, Iowa in July of 1890. He married Jane Wood and had five children, one who died in infancy, the others: Nellie m. W. Arthur; John; Edith and Sarah. Dean, William (p. 446) William Dean was born 27 November 1875 in Mercer Co., Illinois, the son of S.A. and Mary (Powell)( Dean, both natives of Indiana. Deihl, George R.(548) George R. Deihl was b. 27 October 1857 in Louisa Co., the son of John and Margaret (Jamison) Deihl, the former a native of Franklin Co., Pennsylvania and the latter of Ohio. John Deihl was b. 21 November 1808 and came to Louisa Co., in 1836. He died 10 September 1878. George Deihl was m. 1 January 1880 to Eva E. Dotson, a native of Louisa Co., the daughter of Basil and Mary (Davison) Dotson, who were b. in Pennsylvania and England respectively. Her parents came to Louisa Co. in 1844 and had fourteen children. George and Eva had five children: Blanch A. m. Stephen Pandel; John D.; J. Ross; Frank W. and Margaret M. Deihl, John Dotson (437) John Dotson Deihl, son of the above, was b. 10 Decebmer 1882. He was cashier of the Wapello Savings Bank. On the 12 October 1905, he married Talma Bly Parsons, daughter of Douglas D. and Jessie (Hook) Parsons. She had a sister Pearl m. Rallph Hunt and a brother Dean Dotson. Mr. and Mrs. Deihl had two sons: Douglas George, b. 18 July 1906 and Albert Parsons b. 7 July 1908. Deihl, Merit J. (p. 198) Merit J. Diehl was b. 16 March 1856, in Louisa Co., son of John and Margaret (Jamison) Deihl. (See George Deihl for more information on the parents.) Merit Deihl married 17 April 1879 to Clara Brogan b. 25 November 1859, the daughter of James and Eliza Jane (Van Horn) Brogan. She had five siblings: Elius L., d. as infant; Elmeda m. Derby was b. 26 March 1864 in Illinois, the son of Jerome and Lucinda (Wyman) Derby. The parents were married in Vermont and later removed to Illinois. They came to Iowa in 1878. The mother d. January 1911 and the father d. July 1897. Oliver's siblings were Mary L. m. John Allen of Macomb, Ill; Belle, d. in infancy; and Alma d. age 40. Mr. Derby married 4 March 1885 to Anna H. Benz, a native of Louisa Co., b. 17 September 1864, the daughter of Mathias and Lucy (Schneider) Benz, the father a native of Germany and the mother of Pennsylvania where they were married. Her siblings were: Lydia, m. W.F. Nelson; Mary, m. H.J. Jeffries of Muscatine; Jacob, Albert d. age 6, and Zula m. J.H. Hintermeister of Muscatine. Ditto, R.C., M. D.(p. 513) R.C. Ditto, M.D. was b. 24 December 1873 in Seaton, Ill, the son of L.N. and Elizabeth (Wheatley) Ditto, the father a native of Ohio and the mother of Kentucky. His parents were married 10 September 1861 in Illinois. There were eleven children in this family. R.C. Ditto was married in1898 to Ethel Halstead, a native of Illinois, the daughter of Joseph and Hannah (Willard) Halstead. They had four children: Richard S., b. 17 July 1899; Geraldine b. 16 April 1902; Darlyne b. 21 February 1905 and Justine b. 9 February 1907 and d. 12 February 1908. Dodder, Joseph H. (p. 398) Joseph H. Dodder was born 4 February 1846 in Sussex Co., New Jersey, the son of Henry and Margaret (Ripley) Dodder, both born in 1807 in New Jersey. They migrated to Louisa Co. in 1850. The mother d. 1864 and the father 14 November 1887. They had seven children: Jacob; Elizabeth m. George W. Benson of Iowa City; Margaret m. Ira H. Walker of Grandview; Sarah m. Merrick Murphy of New York; Joseph H.; and Albert. Joseph H. married 10 August 1867 to Margaret Stineman, who was b. in Vermilion, Ohio on the 21 February 1846 and d. 1901. Her parents were Philip and Margaret Stineman, natives of Germany and migrated to Louisa Co. in 1853. Mr. and Mrs. Dodder had five children: Edward H.; Ella m. J.E. McGrew; Elizabeth m. George W. McDill; Anna; Myrtle m. Charles Rilliett of Los Angeles, Calif. Dotson, Joseph M.(p. 179) Joseph M. Dotson was born 21 February 1837, son of B.S. and Mary (Davidson) Dotson. The father was born in Maryland and the mother in England. They first settled in Pennsylvania and in 1844 Mr. Dotson moved to Des Moines Co. and in 1849, moved to Louisa Co. There were fourteen children in the family with seven surviving until after 1912: Joseph M.; Sarah J. m. George Turner of Washington; Mark; Harriet, m. E. Stevens; Irene; Oliver P. of Eldon and Eva m. George Deal. In October 1865, Mr. Dotson married Amanda C. Van Horn who died in1867 by whom he had one daughter Buena V. m. F. Abrams of Columbus Junction. He remarried in 1868 to Josephine W. Welch, a native of Indiana. Dotson, Samuel (p. 212) Samuel Dotson was born 25 March 1858 in Louisa Co, son of David and Mary (Jackman) Dotson, both born in Pennsylvania. William Westfall; Etta; and one d. in infancy. Thurman m. 19 November 1889 to Minerva Jamison, who was born in Louisa Co. 29 January 1872, a daughter of J. W. and Rachel (Vaughn) Jamison. Dowson, Robson (p. 510) Robson Dowson was born in Louisa Co. the 29 August 1858, the son of Thomas and Mary (Robson) Dowson, both natives of England where they were married and emigrated to the U.S. in 1849. On 5 November 1891, Mr. Drake married 1)Emma A. Shipman, a daughter of P.O. and Orlena Shipman by whom he had one child Wilbur. Mrs. Drake died 5 May 1893 and Mr. Drake m. 2)26 August 1897 Carrie Hoffman, daughter of Johnson and Mary (Mitchell) Hoffman, who were the parents of seven children, namely: Myrtle O. ,d. in infancy; Carrie; Pearl A.; Charles C.; Edward K.; Floyd J. and Bert. Dryden, Robert C. (p. 312) Robert C. Dryden was born in Ohio and came to Louisa Co. in 1847. On the 4 December 1852 he arrived Mary Mickey, born in Richland Co., Ohio, daughter of John R. and Sarah (Wasson) Mickey. Her parents, natives of Ohio and Pennsylvania respectively came to Iowa in1835. In the Mickey family were nine children, six who survived until 1912: Mary; John M.; R. (p. 311) Charles Duncan was born 18 August 1867 in Louisa Co, the son of Samuel H. and Sarah F. (Edwards) Duncan. The father was five years old when he migrated from Tennessee to Iowa with his parents. They had nine children: J.K.; Charles L.; R.L.' Oscar E.; Guy and Garry, twins; Grace Adela; one who died in infancy and Clyde. On the 15 March 1894, Charles L. Duncan married Minnie May Knaub, born in Clinton Co., Pennsylvania on the 6 October 1873, the daughter of Henry and Ella Amanda (Sprenkle) Knaub. The parents, also natives of Pa., came to Iowa in 1877, settling in Louisa Co.where the father passed away 6 December 1890. Duncan was born 8 July 1838 in Monroe Co., Tennessee,the son of John and Rachel G. (Duncan) Duncan, natives of Tennessee. The father was of Irish descent, his father coming from Ireland. The family moved to Iowa in 1846, arriving in Louisa Co. on the 10th of May. On 13 October 1865, he married Elizabeth Sands, daughter of Nathaniel and Sarah Sands. Their children: Joseph C. of Columbus Jct.; Melvin; William Nelson, of Union Twp; Ida L. m. Harry Edwards; Reuben Harrison; Francis M.; and Jesse. Duncan, James A. (p. 230) James A. Duncan was born on the 20 November 1879 in Seaton, Illinois, the son of A.L. and Lucinda C. (Gilmore) Duncan, both natives of Pennsylvania. In his parents family were six sons and one daughter: Leemoine G., Seaton, Illinois; Mary A., m. William Keating of Seaton; Fred T., of Gainesville, Tx; and Frank L. and Harland H. of Seaton. James A. Duncan came to Oakville, Iowa in 1895 to take care of the grain and lumber business which his father had purchased. On 29 November 1899, he married Maude Waterhouse, daughter of Moses T. and Alice M. (Bell) Waterhouse, who were parents of eleven children: William T.; James O.; John M.; Daisy B., m. G. W. Campbell of Oakville; Maude m. James A. Duncan; Jacob; Ralph Roy; Nellie M. m. G. H. Williams; Violet E. m. Oscar Swanson; Raymond P. and Elva M. Tennessee, the son of John and Rachel (Duncan) Duncan) John Calvin Duncan was twice married. On the 20 April 1867, he m. 1)Sarah Jane Tedford who died at the age of 32. James Carson Duncan married 11 February 1893 to Luella Johnston, a native of Louisa Co., daughter of W.A. and E.R. (Maxwell) Johnston. Her parents were born in Alabama and Ohio respectively and came to Louisa Co. at an early date. IMr. and Mrs. Duncan had seven children: Madge E.; Ethel J.; Calvin A.; Marjorie; Tedford; Robert N. and Harold. Duncan, Joseph K. (p. 417) Joseph K. Duncan was born 31 December 1864, the son of Samuel .H. and Elizabeth (Edwards) Duncan, natives of Tennessee. His father came to Louisa Co. in 1842 when he was 8 years old Duncan, Robert F. (p. 551) Robert F. Duncan was born in Louisa Co. 24 August 1844, the son of J. Kennedy and Margaret (Johnson) Duncan, natives of Tennessee. His siblings were: Catharine: Samuel H.; Sarah J.; Isabella J. m. J. W. Oates of Col. Jct.; J.J. also of C.J.; and twins who died in infancy. Robert F. Duncan married 9 March 1870 to Melissa Bobo, daughter of Jacob and Rosanna (Wren) Bobo, the latter a native of Pennsylvania while the former was born and reared in Ohio. In the Bobo family were twelve children: Melissa (above); Sarah m. Henry Elliott; Filena m. James O'Connor; Michael; Minda; Allan; Harrison; Anis m. Duncan married Frances Crim, who was born in Louisa Co, and was the daughter of George W. and Frances (Butcher) Crim. Her mother d. in December 1879 and her father on 8 February 1901. Duncan, Samuel H. (p. 342) Samuel H. Duncan was born in Tennessee on the 28 October 1838, son of J.K. and Margaret (Johnson) Duncan and brother to Robert F.( above). He married 5 November 1864 to Elizabeth Edwards and had nine children: J.K.; Charles; R.L.; Oscar E.; Guy and Garry, twins; Grace Adella d. in infancy and Clyde d. age seventeen. Duncan, William Nelson (p. 384) William Nelson Duncan was born in Union Twp., Louisa Co. on the 26 March 1870, the son of Francis. M. and Elizabeth (Sands) Duncan. (See father's account above). He married Jennie Orr, daughter of W.W. and Jane (McCooney; Orr, the father a native of Tennessee and the mother of Iowa. Having no children of their own William Nelson and Jennie (Orr) Duncan raised Milo Fulton. Dunham, Fred Earl (p. 400) Fred Earl Dunham was born 19 May 1883 in Louisa Co., the son of Sylvanus and Martha (Jamison) Dunham. On 12 April 1905, Mr. Dunham married Leila Ethel Lowe, daughter of George B. and Alice (Wagner) Lowe, native of Iowa in whose family were three children: Bert, Ralph and Leila. Dunham, Sylvanus (p. 234) Sylvanus Dunham was born in Fayette Co., Indiana on 29 August 1822, the son of Nathaniel and Mary (Williams) Dunham, natives of New York state. He came to Louisa Co. with his widowed mother in 1836. On the 26 April 1865, Mr. Dunham married Martha Jamison, daughter of William D. and Isabella (Seeds) Jamison. She was one of three children, the others being: Susan m. S.A. Thompson of Morning Sun, and Ira. Mr. and Mrs. Dunham had nine children: Ira Edwin, Missouri; William Wright, Fredonia, KS; Harry Ansel, Monte Vista, Colorado; Mary Maud; Bertha Blanche; Sidney Sylvanus; Nellie Ursula m. F. G. Colburn of Oskaloosa; Elmer Roy; and Fred Earl. Mr. Dunham died 6 September 1892 at the age of 72. Dvorak, James (p. 345) James Dvorak was born in Bohemia on the 8 September 1854, the son of Vexclav and Barbara (Adam) Dvorak, who were married in Bohemia and resided there until 1872 when they emigrated to the United States. They were in Baltimore six months and Chicago two years before comijng on to Louisa Co. James Dvorak died 14 March 1903. He was married 9 January 1882 to Mary Hosek, also born in Bohemia, who came to America when she was four years old. Her siblings were: Joseph d. 1905; Annie m. Joseph Lear of Washington Co.; and Frances m. Frank Skubal of Washington Co. Mr. and Mrs. Dvorak had eleven children: Joseph William b. 7 May 1882; Mary Frances b. 2 February 1884 m. Elmer Pearson of Clay Center, KS; Anna B. b. 7 January 1886 m. Theodore Rath of Washington Co.; James b. 14 December 1887; Rose b. 4 October 1889, m. George Longquist; Frank b. 9 June 1892; Amelia E. b. 1 March 1894; Clara Matilda b. 7 March 1896; Helen Agnes b. 18 August 1898; Alby b. 10 February 1901; and Nora b. 11 September 1903 Dyche, Charles J. (p. 383) Charles J. Dyche was born 11 January 1880 in Washington Co., Iowa, the son of John and Alice (Boyd) Dyche. They were both natives of Ohio and came to Iowa in early childhood and married in Washington Co. and later moved to Louisa Co. He married 20 May 1903 to May McCormick of Columbus City, the daughter of J.T. and Sabina McCormick, native of Ohio, who came to Louisa County at an early date. They had two children: Nella Ester b. 29 November 1903 and Irma Alice b. 13 August 1905. Edmondson, Elmore E. (p. 157) Elmore E. Edmondson was born in Louisa Co. on the 14 December 1886, the son of Micajah and Sarah (McCleary) Edmondson, both natives of Louisa Co. He became a lawyer, passing the bar in 1910. If he married it was after 1912 when the History of Louisa Co. was published. Edmondson, M. R. M.R. Edmondson was born in Concord Twp., Louisa Co. , 5 June 1865, the son of R.H. and Jane (Reeder) Edmondson, the former a native of Blount Co., Tennessee and the latter of Louisa Co. They were married in Louisa Co. The mother died 8 August 1897. The father (R.H.) was born 8 October 1830, the son of David and Nancy (Scott) Edmondson, natives of Virginia who migrated to Tennessee during the early development of that state. They moved to Indiana in 1836 and came to Louisa Co. in 1855. The ancestry of the family can be traced back to England, for David Edmondson was a son of David and Jennette (Wilson) Edmondson, both natives of England. The maternal grandfather for M.R. was Micajah Reeder, who organized the first Masonic and Odd Fellows Lodges in Louisa Co. The siblings of M.R. were: W.L., Decatur Co., IA; Nancy m. C. McDaniel; G.W.; and Emma m. T.J. Carey. M. R. Edmondson married 22 March 1884 in Linn Co., Kansas to Ida McCleary, who ws born in Louisa Co. on the 19 January 1862, the daughter of George W. and Nancy (Simpkins) McCleary, also natives of Louisa Co. The father was a son of Abraham and Sarah (Trimbul) McCleary, both natives of Ohio, where they were raised and married. Ida McCleary was one of thirteen children. The others: S.J.; Helen m. a Classin; Victoria m. a Carpenter; John; Bertha m. a Martin; Annie m. a Holtz; Lula m. a Davis; Jeff D.; Pearl m. a Skye; Grover; George and Ruth. Edmondson, R.F. R.F. Edmondson was born in Blount Co., Tennessee, ont he 9 June 1855, the son of William and Mary (Walker) Edmondson, both natives of Ohio. They came to Louisa Co. in 1856. The mother d. 22 May 1874 and the father d. in 1887. They had ten children, but only four living in 1912: Eliza J., m. S.D. Johnston; Margaret J. m. G. W. Duncan; Carolina, and R.F. R.F. Edmondson m. 1) 1880 to Etta Duncan b. 1857, daughter of F.A. Duncan. She died 8 November 1898, survived by four children: Mary , m. Ed Shellabarger; Nellie m. S.L. Olson of N.D.; William F; and Dale D. He m. 2)26 February 1902 to Mrs. Alice (Pearson)Lupton, daughter of James S. and Sarah Pearson, natives of England. The parents came to America in 1845, locating first in Virginia. The father d. November 1881 and the mother in January 1902. Edwards, Harry L. (p. 366) Harry L. Edwards was born in Union Twp. on the 11 August 1870, the son of John H. and Ella P. (Carson) Edwards, the father a native of Tennessee and the mother of Louisa Co. Mr. Edwards d. 1888 but the mother was still living in 1912. Harry L. Edwards m. 18 February 1892 to Ida L. Duncan, a native of Louisa Co. and the daughter of F.M. and Elizabeth P. (Sands) Duncan, of Louisa Co. Mr. and Mrs. Edwards had four children: Hazel M. b. 6 March 1895; Glen D. b. 15 April 1900; Fern D. b. 1 August 1902; and Evelyn Irene. b. 30 July 1906. Edwards. J.H. J.H. Edwards was born in Blount Co., Tennessee on 19 October 1888, the son of Madison and Esther (Johnston) Edwards, both natives of Blount Co.. They came to Louisa Co. in the 1840's. On 4 September 1866, J.H. Edwards married Ella T. Carson, a native of Louisa Co, the daughter of Mark and Mary (Colton) Carson, the former born in Tennessee and the latter in Pennsylvania. Ella T. was their only child. Mr. and Mrs. Edwards had ten children: Margaret H.; Harry L.; Mary M., Salt Lake City, Utah; Bessie m. Charles Holada; Roy of S.D.; Grace; m. Harry L. Foster of Johnson Co., Ia.; Maud m. M. McGuire; Rose; Nellie; and Mark. Edwards, Lewis (p. 428) Lewis Edwards was born in Wales in April 1848, the son of Rowland and Catharine Edwards, also natives of Wales. He married Hannah Davis, also a native of Wales. She died 15 February1901 and is buried in Cambrian Cemetery. They had four children: James L.; Evan L.; Cahterine Ann m. E.S. May; and John L. Edwards, William E. (p. 464) William E. Edwards was born in Louisa Co. 25 May1870, son of Charles W. and Delia (Merriam) Edwards. The father was born in Oneida Co.,N.Y. in 1822 and the mother in Oswego Co., N. Y. They arrived in Louisa Co. in 1864. On the 22 January 1891, he married Lola G. Hook, daughter of George W. and Emily B. (Trask) Hook, whose parents were natives of Louisa Co. Mr. and Mrs. Edwards had two children: Georgie b. 23 May 1892, d. same yr. and Lucille b. 17 October 1900. Mrs. Edwards was one of nine children, the others: Elisha; Sophia; Jessie m. Abraham Parsons; Grant, George; Emma m. Dr. F.R. Wright of Wapello; and Merritt B., a Dr. at Denver, Colorado. England, Samuel A. (p.413) Samuel A. England was b. 17 September 1875 in Louisa Co. He was the son of Joseph and Malinda (Skinner) England, the former a native of Lansing, Michigan and the latter of Ohio. The father was brought to Louisa Co. by his parents when he was two years old. The father died 29 March 1893. Samuel A.'s siblings were: Nancy J. m. J. Ross of Henry Co., Ia; Mary E. m. Robert Clark; and Ida May m. Calvin Black. On the 28 December 1898, Mr. England married Ella Paisley, who was born in Morning Sun, Iowa on the 21 April 1873, the daughter of Robert and Eliza (Swan) Paisley, both natives of Ohio. They came to Louisa Co. at an early day and Mr. Paisley d. 7 April 1902. Epperly, Adam (p. 368) Adam Epperly was b. in Wayne Co., Indiana, 14 April 1838, the son of William and Nancy (Gower) Epperly, the mother a native of Maryland and the father of Virginia. They were married in Wayne Co. and came to Louisa Co. in 1865. Adam had a sister Mary m. Jackson Campbell. Etter, Frank (p.374) Frank Etter was born 14 August 1868 in Washington Co. Ia, the son of Jacob and Julia (Davis) Etter. The father was b. in Pennsylvania 24 March 1835, the mother on 10 September 1838, and they were married in Pennsylvania 6 October 1859. They moved to Iowa from Pennslvania in 1862. Mrs. Etter d. 20 may 1870. They had three children: George d. in infancy; Emma d. 11 December 1887 after the birth of her fourth child; and Frank, our subject. Frank Etter m. 10 April 1890 to Inza B. Fraze, b. 7 December 1871, the daughter of Henry A. and Matilda (Black) Fraze, both natives of Stark Co., Ohio. The former was b. 29 September 1840 and the latter 7 September 1846. They married in Stark Co. 14 February 1865 and moved to Muscatine Co. in 1869. The Fraze's had eight children: Nettie m. John Lunt, of Muscatine Co.; Exa m. Charles Seydel, of Seattle, Wash.; our subject Inza; Albertus V., Calif.; Orrilla m. Perry Comer, of Muscatine Co.; Virgil; Ernest, d. in infancy. Mr. and Mrs Etter had six children: Charles b. 10 February 1891, died on the 21st of Feb.; Samuel F. b. 12 February 1893; Mary E. b. 1 October 1899; John Henry b. 20 August 1904; Clarence L. b. 9 February 1906 and Edna M. b. 19 October 1907.
