Born September 13, 1915, in Chelsea, Iowa, he was the son of John Christian and Elizabeth Villars Klenk. On July 16, 1937, he married Floreine C. Cover in Burlington. Mr. Klenk served in the Civil Conservation Corp in Oakville. He was a dragline operator and plant engineer for the Des Moines County Drainage District No 7 for more than 40 years, retiring in 1984. He collected American Indian relics and was an avid gardener, hunter and fisherman. He loved to travel, go camping, watch and play baseball, and spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife, Floreine, two sons, Kenneth Ray and wife Judy Klenk of Oakville and Richard Lee and wife Janet Klenk of Burlington; one daughter, Janice Rose and her husband Bill Brown of New London; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Cora LeMaster and Helen Klenk, both of Charles City; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Gary (Cindy) Klenk, and two brothers. Open visitation was Sunday at the Hass Funeral Home, where the family met with friends in the evening. The funeral service for Mr. Klenk was at 11 am Monday at the funeral home. Interment was in the Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery.
