His parents removed from Pennsylvania to Richland County, Ohio, in 1817, when he was four years of age, and in that new country he grew to manhood. He helped his parents to turn a wilderness into a happy and pleasant home. In 1836 he was married to Miss Rebecca Baycorn, of Richland Country, Ohio. Their union was blessed with seven children four sons and three daughters. There is still living one daughter, Mrs. Maggie MaCumber and all four sons, John of Orient, Iowa, Nathan and Martin, of Winterset, and Jake, who resides in Oklahoma. Sometime after his marriage he moved to Indiana and lived here until 1849 when the glowing accounts of the new state of Iowa induced him to move once more , so in 1849 he care to Polk county, where he resided until 1867, when removed to Winterset where he has lived ever since. Mr. McDole has all of his life been a working man engaged in clearing the land and farming. When He was in his Eighties he enjoyed work such as ordinary men of sixty would consider tasks. He belonged to a class of men, which it seems is rapidly passing away. Rugged pioneers whose hearts and hands were ever ready to assist their brother man. The writer was often entertained by Mack as he called him and his reminiscences showed he was a diamond whose luster lured the needy to9 his door and none ever went away empty-handed. Mr. McDole was an exemplary citizen every ready to assist to the best of his ability every good and benevolent project. His allotted time has been far beyond the four score years and he has gently passed to the great beyond, where we hope a happy reunion now is and he is with his wive who preceded him some years ago. Besides his five children and many friends who mourn his lose and cherish his memory, he leaves thirty-five grandchildren, thirty great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. Funeral services where held at the home and conducted by Rev. Trublood.
