Patterson, Martha Anna Holmes, b. 2 Oct 1876, dau. of James and Elizabeth Holmes in Madison county, Ohio twp., Dec. 27, 1892. m. Charles W. Patterson of Clarke county. 6 children, Lucy Elizabeth, deceased; James Howard, near Booneville; Hazel Alma Forney of Kansas City; Thomas R., Mary Ruth and Lavina Bell at home. 2 grandchildren, Howard Miles Cooper and Charles Theodore Patterson. Peek, Lounann Bragg, b. Metcalf county, Ky., Feb. 4, 1848. d. Wellston, Okla., Feb. 26, 1918. Last of a family of 11 children. m. John Wm. Peek, Sep. 14, 1865. Moved to Madison county 1866, residing there till 1908 then to Okla. 4 children, Samuel E. oldest, d. at Hempstead, Texas in 1914 at age 48; Surviving, husband, 3 children, Callie D. Scott of Portland, Kansas, Jesse O. and Oscar Wayne Peek both of Wellston. 7 grandchildren. Wellston Cemetery Phillips, Zelma Marie Myers, was born near Murray, September 19, 1896 and passed to the Great Beyond at her home in Des Moines Sunday evening, January 31, 1960, at the age of 63 years 4 months and 12 days. She was united in marriage to Edwin G. Phillips, January 5, 1917, and to this union three daughters were born: Theola, now Mrs. Spencer Donner of Lorimor, Iowa; Lola,(Mrs. Lyman McKee), St. Charles; and Georgia (Mrs. Darwin Smith) of Des Moines. She accepted Christ when a young girl and united with the Union church near her home. After her marriage she transferred her membership to the Christian church at Truro. She was a charter member of the Thursday Girls of the Christian church at Truro, also a member of the World War I Veterans Auxiliary of Winterset. After her marriage she and her husband moved to a farm southwest of Truro where they lived until they moved to Des Moines in November, 1950. They then transferred their membership from the Christian church in Truro to the College Avenue Christian church in Des Moines where she was a faithful attendant when her health permitted. She became very ill in November, 1937, and was confined to the hospital for many months and as a result of that illness she was never able to walk again, but was confined to the wheel chair but nevertheless led a very acive life and was always busy helping someone. She was very proficient with her hands and made many beautiful articles in crocheting, embroidery, and sewing, besides the beautiful shell work. She was always happy and bore her affliction bravely. Her eight grandchildren were a great joy in her life and she loved to have them in her home and was always doing something that would bring happiness to them. She became very ill Sunday evening, Jan. 31, and in a short time was gone to meet her Savior. She was the youngest of 17 children. She leaves to mourn her passing, her devoted husband, Edwin, the three daughters, three sons-in-law, three grandsons, five granddaughters; two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Keys of Murray, Iowa and Mrs. Dick Bierma of Sutheland, Nebr.; two brothers, Bert Myers of Murray and Floyd Myers of Peru; nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Her funeral was held from the Congregational Christian church on Wednesday, Feb 3, conducted by reverend Miller of College Ave. Christian church, in Des Moines, assisted by Rev. Dale Lockart, pastor of the Truro Christian church. She was laid to rest in the Peru cemetery. Her place will be vacant and she will be missed but our loss is her eternal gain. Phipps, Robert W., son of James. b. Feb 28, 1863. d. at home south of St. Charles, Sep 23, 1915. m. Miss Nannie Bradshaw, Oct 24, 1894. 2 dau., Ellen Cloe and Madge survive, also wife and 4 sisters and four brothers. St. Charles Cemetery Porter, Maggie Alice, b. Madison county, 20 Feb 1892. d. at home of parents in truro, Feb 4, 1911. Surviving are parents, 3 sisters, 1 brother. Porter, William Albert, son of John and Nancy E. Creger Porter was born on a farm in South Township, Madison county, December 17, 1867 and passed to the Great Beyond at the hospital at Osceola, Iowa, May 17, 1948, age 80 years and 5 months. He grew to manhood on the farm where he was born and was united in marriage to Miss Josie Dowler, October 11, 1893. To this union was born four children, Inez, now Mrs. Russell Phillips, Opal, a teacher in the Cedar Rapids school, Harry and Russell, who has passed away. He and his wife lived for a time on the farm of her parents near his boyhood home later moving to a farm near Truro. He has spent his entire life in the vicinity of Truro except a few years near New Virginia, Iowa. For the past ?????years they lived in Truro. They celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary in 1943 and in October of this year would have completed 55 years of wedded life...............He leaves to mourn his passing besides his wife and three children, four grandchildren, three great grandchildren, one brother, Fletcher R. Porter of Truro, a sister, Mrs. Harry R. Plumb of Oakland, Iowa, nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Purvis, Phoebe Ellen Benedict, dau. of Israel and Sarah Comfort Benedict, was born in Ohio, December 24, 1854, and passed to her reward in the Harken Hospital, Osceola, Iowa, April 29, 1949, age 95 years 4 months and 5 days. She came with her parents to West Branch, Iowa when she was seven years old. they lived there a few years then moved to a farm in the South Prairie neighborhood near West Liberty, Iowa where she grew to womanhood. She was united in marriage to Chester S. Purvis of West Liberty, February 1878. To this union two children were born, Arthur Purvis of Truro and Blanch, now Mrs. Arthur Carver of St. Charles. In the spring of 1886 she with her husband and children came to Madison county and settled on a farm south of Truro, living in that community until 1909 when they moved to Truro. She with her husband accepted Christ as their Savior soon after their marriage and united with the South Prairie Church near their home. On moving to Madison county they transferred their membership to the Oak Run Friends Church, where they were faithful attenders. When they moved to Truro they transferred their membership to the Methodist Church in Truro where she has remained a faithful member. Her husband passed away March 25, 1926 and after his death she has lived with her daughter, Blanche. She leaves to mourn, her son and daughter, 3 grandchildren, 3 great grand- children. One sister, Mrs. Nora Rupp of Washington, Iowa. Queen, Martha A. Runkle, was born in Culpepper county, Va., 29 Mar 1820. d. New Virginia, Oct 15, 1910. When a child she moved with parents to Bartholomew county, Indiana. m. Hogan Queen, 5 Feb 1846. Resided in that county 7 years then in 1853 came to Iowa by wagon trail, 16 days on the road. Located on a farm in South Twp. He d. Feb 19, 1890. 7 children, Wm, Sarah, Elizabeth, Phoebe Jane, John L., Thomas H., Mary Isabell and Oliver. Only 2 sons are left, Wm. of Perry, Okla and Thomas of Truro. 19 grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren. Union Chapel Cemetery. Rankin, Benona Robert, b. July 19, 1845 at Rockhill, Belmont county, Ohio. d. Truro, Mar 31, 1913. In 1855 he and father came west to Des Moines county, lived there 12 years. In 1867 moved to Chariton county, Mo., where he married Alverda Florence Likens, Jan. 5, 1876. 2 sons, Benona Orville d. Mar. 8, 1895 and Frank Oliver. In 1880 moved to Peru and in 1896 to Truro. Peru Cemetery Rankin, James, b. Sep. 26, 1843 at Rockhill, Belmont county, Ohio. d. May 14, 1912 at home of brother B. R. Rankin. at age of 13 moved to Burlington, Iowa. In 1889 to Madison county. 3 sisters, 3 brothers, Aaron Rankin of Maryville, Mo., Clara Hillman, Lorimor, Hannah Ilo, Lorimor, B. R., Truro, Mrs. G. Skinner, Winterset and Orville, Winterset. Peru Cemetery Rayburn, Grace May, of Cumming. d. at Methodist Hospital. Survivors, husband, 2 children, Claude and Wilma. Clipping dated 28 Aug. 1925 Reager, Isaac, b. Va. 1826, As a young man moved to eastern Iowa with parents. In 1852 married and came west. Entered land in Walnut twp. in 1853. Some years ago because of old age he moved to Norcatur, Kansas, where he died Dec. 16. Peru Cemetery Reed, David Franklin, son of W. E. and Mary A. (Bradshaw) Reed, was born on a farm two miles north of Truro, October 26, 1869 and passed away at his home in Truro, February 24, 1943, age 73 years 3 months and 28 days. He grew to manhood on the farm where he was born. He was united in marriage to Miss Julia Banker, February 22, 1893 and to this union two sons were born, J. Fred of Truro and Wendall of Winterset, Iowa. They made their home on the farm for two years after their marriage then they moved to Winterset and were employed at the County Home for two years. They returned to their farm one year then moved to Truro where he went into the hardware and implement business and several years later going into the automobile business which he continued until his health began to fail and he was forced to retire. He united with the Methodist Church about 35 years ago and has served on the Official Board for many years as Trustee and Steward. He will be greatly missed in the church as he was always loyal to his church and was always present at S. S. and church services as long as health permitted. He served on the School Board for 12 years and was Clerk of the Board for fifteen years. He was always active in the affairs of the town and community. He was an honorable citizen, a kind and obliging neighbor, a good husband and father and he has fought life's battles; has answered the last roll cll and now has gone to his reward. He leaves to mourn, his widow, two sons, four grandsons, one granddaughter, two sisters. (An addition to this obituary adds the following: He leaves to mourn three grandsons, Fred Jr. Reed, who left on Monday before his grandfather's death to serve our country, and twin grandsons, Herbert and Harry and David Reed, one grandaughter, Diane; two sisters, Mrs. Hester Reed and Lula Reed, other relatives and a host of friends.) Reed, Delbert, son of Mrs. Emma (or Emily) Reed. His father, B. H. Reed, died in a well near Truro 8 years ago. Delbert, age 19 died in a fall from a plow in Pottawattamie county where he was working. Reed, John Cassidy, was born in Carroll county, Ohio, March 24, 1851 and died at his home in Truro, Iowa, May 30, 1914 at age 63 years 2 months 6 days. When he was 4 years of age his parents moved to Montezuma, Iowa where they lived for a short time, moving to Madison county in the spring of 1855 where he has since resided. Married to Laura Amelda Bean, March 21, 1876. To this union 2 children were born, Mrs. Addie M. Steers of Des Moines and Charles N. of Truro. He also leaves to mourn, 2 brothers and his wife. Reed, John Fred, Funeral services were held Sunday, March 6 for former Truro resident, John Fred Reed, Sr., 77, who died Thursday, March 3, at the Madison County Hospital in Winterset. The Rev. David Wagner of Truro and Rev. Paul G. Bousfield of Winterset officiated at the 2 p.m. services which were held from the United Methodist Church in Truro. John Fred Reed, Sr. was born October 20, 1899, in Truro, Iowa, son of David Frank Reed and Julia Banker Reed. He graduated from Truro High School in 1919 and attended Highland Park College and Iowa State University. He was married to Honor Creger on October 2, 1919 in Truro. Three children were born to this union. He served with the U. S. Navy during World War I and was engaged in the produce and lumber business upon his return. He was affiliated with the United Methodist Church in Truro. Survivors include his son, Fred Reed Jr. and wife Dorris of Truro; son, Herbert T. Reed and wife, Dorothy of Winterset; son, Harry F. Reed and wife, Virginia of Winterset; nine grandchildren; five great grand- children; and one sister-in-law, Mrs. Eulalia Reed of Ross, California. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Honor; and one brother, Wendell. Interment was in Young Cemetery, Truro. Osceola Sentinel, Thursday, March 10, 1977 Reed, Julia Banker, daughter of S. O. and Jane Barger Banker was born in Guernsey county, Ohio, December 20, 1869 and passed to the Great Beyond May 9, 1957, age 87 years 4 months and 19 days. She came with her parents to Iowa when a young girl and grew to womanhood on a farm a few miles east of Truro. She was united in marriage to David Franklin Reed at the home of her parents February 22, 1893. To this union two sons were born, J. Fred of Truro and Wendell of Mill Valley, California. She and her husband lived on a farm north of Truro few years then moving into Truro where her husband was engaged in the hardware and implement business. She gave her heart to God and united with the Methodist Church in Truro soon after her marriage and was a faithful attendant of all activities of her church. Her husband passed away February 24, 1943. She remained in her house as long as her health permitted and her pride and joy was her children and grandchildren. Her parents, two brothers and one sister preceded her in death. She leaves to mourn her passing the two sons, four grandsons, 6 great grandsons and 2 (or 3) great grandaughters. Reed, Monroe, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dell Reed. d. Apr 12, 1919 at New Virginia, Iowa. George Monroe Reed b. Warren Co., 8 Sep 1900. Surviving are parents, 2 brothers, Jennings and Marvin, 2 sisters, Nettie and Ruby. Reed, Moses Bradford, son of Benjamin and Rachael Foster Reed was born in Tuscarawas county, Ohio, March 24, 1856, and passed to to the great beyond at his home in Truro, Iowa, February 17, 1934 at the age of 77 years, 10 months and ? days. At the age of 6 years he came with his parents to Madison county, Iowa and settled on a farm near Peru. He grew to manhood in Madison county. After finishing school here he attended the Battle Creek College in Michigan. Having decided to enter the medical profession he entered the Medical College in Keokuk, Iowa and graduated with the class of 1888. He was united in marriage to Hester B. Reed, August 20, 1887 and to this union one son Frank Foster was born. He passed away September 23, 1890 at the age of 16 months. Mr. Reed was converted and joined the Methodist Church in 1890. They moved to Cromwell in 1889 and lived there until 1922 when they returned to Truro. He had practiced medicine in Cromwell until his health failed him in 1914. Reed, Rosa Hannah Jolly, was born near Truro, December 5, 1861 and passed to the Great Beyond at the home of her son, Oscar, in Pleasanton, Iowa, July 4, 1948, aged 86 years, 7 months, 29 days. She grew to womanhood on the farm where she was born and there on ??????1880, she was united in marriage to William Evans Reed. To this union were born four sons, Merton, who passed away in July 1946; Oscar and Ivan of Pleasanton and Don who passed away at the age of two years. After her marriage she and her husband moved to a farm near Truro where they lived until March 1, 1896, when they moved to a farm near Pleasanton, later moving into Pleasanton where her husband passed away in 1916........... ....until last October when she went to the home of her son, Oscar and wife where she was tenderly cared for. She accepted Christ as her Savior when a young girl and united with the Methodist Church near Truro, later transferring her membership to the church at Pleasanton. She was always a regular attendant of all the church services until her health began to fail. She has lived a true Christian life and was never happier than when working in the church. She was a lover of flowers and in her home she always had beautiful flowers around her. She needs no eulogies for her life has been a testimony for her Savior and as we think of her she is not dead but is just gone on to heaven above and is waiting to welcome her loved ones. She loved her children and took great pride in her grandchildren. Robinson, Emery Samuel, b Barbour county West Virginia on Apr. 20, 1841. d. at Truro Apr. 30, 1913. Came to New Virginia when about 12. Enlisted from there in 39th Iowa. June 1867 m. Mahala Edith Bradshaw. 5 children, 2 died in infancy. Surviving, Mrs. Clara Ellen Irwin of New Virginia, James Wesley and Charles William of Truro. His wife died Apr. 25, 1884 and he married Rachel Ann Burt, Oct. 18, 1888. She died Feb. 15, 1913. Robinson, Euphemia Creger, Services for Mrs. Euphemia Robinson, 84, of 4109 Plainview Drive, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Dunn's Funeral Home with graveside services at noon at the Hartman Cemetery in Truro. Mrs. Robinson died Tuesday at the Rest View Nursing Home, 1211 Pleasant St. after an illness of seven months. Born in Truro, she had been resident of Des Moines for 30 years. She was a practical nurse and member of Grace Methodist Church. She also belonged to the X-Y-Z Club. Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Mary Sidener of Des Moines, a granddaughter, two great- granddaughters and a great great grandson. Roby, Albert Evans, b. Leaves husband and 8 year old son, sister and father of Lee county. Young Cemetery Roby, William Doyle, Funeral services were held Sunday, March 13, 1977 for William Doyle Roby, of Truro, Iowa who died Friday, March 11 at the Veteran's Hospital in Des oines, Iowa. Rev. David Wagner of Truro conducted the 2:00 p.m. service from the Kale Funeral Home in Truro, Iowa with interment in the New Virginia Cemetery in New Virginia, Iowa. William Doyle Roby, 80 was born in Truro, Iowa, October 20, 1896, the son of Albert Evan and Effie Johnson Roby. He attended the Truro Schools and July 15, 1918 was united in marriage to Wilma Hurst in Chicago, Illinois. Two sons were born to this union. May 20, 1968 he was united in mrriage to Wylma Frazier. He had been an employee of the Natural Gas Pipeline Co. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Ivy Lodge 483 FMAM and was affiliated with the Christian Church. He is survived by his wife, Wylma of Truro; sons, Don Roby of Des Moines; Robert Roby of San Bruno, California; seven grandchildren; one step-son, Gaylen Frazier of Falcon Heights, Minnesota and two step-grand- children. Sharon Mac Millan Rocky, Mary Barclay, was born in Altoona, Pa., August 2, 1885 and passed to the Great Beyond at her home in Truro, April 11, 1943, age 57 years, 8 months 9 days. She was united in marriage to Frank Rocky, January 19, 1905 in Altoona, Pa. To this union were born two sons, Harry of Truro, Iowa and Kenneth of Peru. She with her family moved to Iowa in 1910 living near St. Charles one year then moving to a farm near Peru, where they lived for many years. Her husband passed away March 24, 1917 but she and the boys remained on the farm until the boys were grown. She was married to E. E. Kale of Truro on January 15, 1934 and she then came to Truro to make her home where she has resided since that time. Rundall, Cecelia Violette Rundall, dau. of Robert and Minerva Jane Rundall. b. June 10, 1846 near Farmers Mill, Putman county, N.Y. In Apr. 1871 she came with her father's family to near Truro. On Oct. 21, 1871 she m. Wm. Henry Rundall. d. Feb. 15, 1930. Survivors, dau. Mrs. Ida Cole of Osceola, 4 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, brother, F. P., 3 nieces and 1 nephew. Runkle, William Lewis, b. Madison county, June 6, 1856. d. at home 1409 26th St., Des Moines on Aug. 29, 1921. Lived in Madison county till 1897 moved to Hubbard county, Minnesota for 14 years, moved to Des Moines about 1911. m. Mrs. Allie Holmes, Feb. 11, 1908. She survives as do 2 brothers.
