Came to Iowa and Madison county in 1854. m. Miss Belle C. Walker, Nov. 14, 1869. 9 children, 5 sons, 4 daughters, all living except 1 son who died some years ago and 1 dau. who died in infancy. Ebenezer Smith, Mary Janet, youngest dau. of Mrs. Mary Jane Smith. Smith, Ross (Roscoe C.) b. near the Ohio P.O. in Madison Co., Mar 18, 1880. m. Ella Holmes d. Mar. 5, 1908 Winterset Cemetery Stickel, Nicholas, d. at New Virginia 19 Sep. 100 years old. b. Lowden county, Va. July 21, 1822 of hardy German stock. Came to America before the Revolution. In W.V. he m. Martha M. Proudfoot, Oct 8, 1846. With father-in-law, Thomas Proudfoot and another man named Van Scoy, they started west. This was 1854. Stopped in Warren county at White Oak Point. 9 children. in 1901 wife died. 3 childred preceded. Survivors are Mrs. Harriet McGee of Beech, Mrs. Mary Green of Des Moines, Elias Stickel of New Virginia, Mrs. Cora Bolyard of Des Moines, Cyrena Stickel of New Virginia and Ed Stickel of Ft. Dodge and 32 grand- children, 65 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. Stoneman, Carrie Marshal, youngest daughter of Wm. L. and Hattie Marshall was born in Boonville, Cooper county, Missouri, April 9, 1883 and passed to the great beyond at the home of her son in Truro, Iowa, April 17, 1942 at the age of 59 years and 8 days. At an early age her father passed away and her mother was married to Gilmore Stoneman in 1894 and in 1896 she was legally adopted. Her mother passed away in 1910. After her father's retirement he was cared for in her home until his death in 1918. She was married to Oren H. Stoneman in Kansas City, Missouri on January 30, 1906 and to this union one son, Oscar, was born. They have spent all their married life in this vicinity. In early life she united with the East Broadway Christian Church in Sedalia, Missouri and after her marriage transferred her membership to the Truro Christian Church which she attended until her hearing became so impaired she was unable to enjoy the services but in her own words which she left as a testimony she has tried to live close to her Savior and follow his ways of life. Stoneman, Theodore H., son of William and Matilda Reed Stoneman was born in Carroll county, Ohio, May 21, 1853. At the age of two years he came with his parents to Powashiek county, Iowa where his mother passed away a few days after reaching there. He came with his father to Madison county but in a short time they returned to Ohio and lived there until he was 21 years old when he came to Madison county. He was married to Miss Emma Martin and four children were born to them. Etha and Nellie who passed away several years ago, Oren, of Truro and Mrs. Bradie Spencer of East Peru, Iowa. His wife passed away October 23, 1890. He was married to Miss Sarah Moore, September 1891 and to this union was born one son, William. He was converted and joined the Ohio M. E. Church in the winter of 1877 and later transferred his membership to the Truro M. E. Church of which he has remained a true and faithful member. He moved from his farm south of Truro to Osceola in 1915 and lived there until this spring when he and his wife went to his son William's where they have spent the summer. His health had been failing.............become serious until about a week ago. He was taken to the Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines last Saturday but he grew worse during the night and passed away Sunday morning aged 67 years 4 months and 3 days. He leaves to mourn his loss a wife, two sons and one daughter, other relatives and a host of friends. Stoneman, William, b. Harrison county, Ohio, Jan. 15, 1825. d. at home of son, Theodore near Truro, Nov. 29, 1910. m. Matilda Reed on Mar. 26, 1846. 3 children, Thomas Gilmore, Theodore Hayes and 1 child who died in infancy. Moved to Montezuma, Ia. in fall of 1854. Wife d. 12 days later. Soon fter moved to Madison county, near Truro. In 1856 m. Katherine Ann Reed. 2 children, Jennie who survives in Thornwood Park, Ohio and John who preceded his father on Mar. 20, 1886. He returned to Tuscarawas county, Ohio till 1900 when he went to Leesville then to Truro in 1905 to home of son Theodore. Suriving 2 sons, 1 daughter, 10 grand- children, 7 great grandchildren. Daniel Swearingen Dec. 11, 1877. 3 daughters, Mrs. Ida Miller of Truro, Mrs. Grace Rankin of near Winterset and Mrs. Flossie Dodd who preceded her mother in death. Surviving are husband, 2 daughters, 7 grandchildren, 6 sisters and 2 brothers. Swesey, Mrs. Nettie E. Miller, b. 27 Feb 1870 near Truro on the old family homestead. d. 18 Oct 1906. m. Bradshaw, Oct. 2, 1869. 3 children, L. B. of Boone, W. D. and Mrs. A. V. Jones of Truro. After husbands death she m. J. H. Taylor, also deceased. Young Cemetery Tisdale, Zerilda Cunningham Debord, b. Clark county, Indiana, June 15, 1825. d. Nov. 10, 1913 age 88 years 4 months and 25 days. When a child parents settled in McClain county, Ill. where she m. Elijah Debord in 1843. 8 children, 5 of whom with Mr. Debord died after moving to Madison county in 1854. Living are Mrs. W. F. Guilliams of Harrisonville, Mo., Mrs. W. H. Doan and T. H. Debord of Patterson. m. Rev. R. D. Tisdale, Nov. 11, 1863, 3 children, 1 survives, Mrs. H. C. Beerbower. Husband died Mar. 22, 1904. McGinnis Cemetery, Patterson. Young of Beverly, Ill. on Apr. 18, 1912. Moved to Madison county in the fall of 1863. b. Westmoreland county, Pa., Aug. 4, 1821. In 1833 to Harrison county, Ohio then to Tuscarawas where he m. Dec. 3, 1846 to Rebecca Creger. 4 children, 2 sons, 2 daughters. Fall of 1853 to Madison county. His wife died. He married Margaret Herren. 8 children, 5 daughters, 3 sons. She died Jan. 10, 1892. Served 1 year in Co. F., 39th Ia. Inf.
