"D" Obit Collection Madison Co, Iowa ---------------------------------------------------------------- Delong, Ada, Died Sunday June 10, 1894 at 3 p.m. Ada Delong, daughter of Lee and Matilda Delong, age 9 years and 23 days. The remains were intered in the Hartman cemetery 1 1/2 miles south-west of town Monday, June 11. Mr. and Mrs. Delong have sympathy of the entire community in this the hour of sadness. (a poem by Mrs. E. W. followed but was not copied) DeWitt, Mrs. John, Again the pale messenger of death has visited our quiet little village, this time stopping at the home of Mother Maskel, on Feb 27, and carried her over the stormy river but she was ready and is now safely housed in the blessed home of all God's people in Heaven, thus those who are left to sorrow and mourn, sorrow not without hope for their loss in her everlasting gain. The deceased was born in Ohio in 1817 and was married to John DeWitt in 1836; to them were born thirteen children, six of whom are in the sweet bye and bye; in 1864 her husband left her to struggle through life alone but now all is over and she is at rest with the part of her family gone efore. Peace be to her silent dust. Funeral services were held at her late residence conducted by the writer. J. H. Creger Dick, John P. Died on Tuesday morning April 7th, 1896, of cancer of the stomach. Deceased was a pioneer of Madison County, having lived here for about thirty years and was highly respected by all who knew him. He has suffered for some time with cancer of the stomach. He was up and around until Sunday and was in Truro on last Saturday. The funeral was held at the Oak Run church on Wednesday and he was then taken to the Union cemetery where hee was laid away until the resurrection morn. Dowler, Joseph, Died at his home near St. Charles of dropsy, on Thursday morning, Nov. 30th, Mr. Joseph Dowler, aged 74 years and 22 days. He was born Nov. 8th, 1819, in Washington county, Pennsylvania. Maarried Martha G. Roberts, of the same county and state, Nov. 28th, 1846. He came to Madison county in 1865 where he lived till time of death. He has been a member of the church for over thirty years and of the M. E. church eight years. During the last two years of his life, he seemed to be wholly consecrated to the Lord, and talked a great deal about dying and his readiness to go. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. W. C. Smith at the M. E. church at Hanley, after which he was laid to rest in the St. Charles cemetery. He leaves a wife, four sons and five daughters. Four children preceded him to the land of rest.
