"N" Obituraries/Misc, Truro, Ohio Twp, Madison Co, Iowa --------------------------------------------------------------------- A complete listing of obituaries and explaination of origin are in the Index linked to the main page. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Nickols, Elijah S., was born in Menard county Illinois, March 1, 1838, He married Louvenia McManaway, September 6, 1860. To them were born four sons. He with his family moved to Madison county, Iowa in 1876. He died February 24, 1895, age 56 years 11 months and 23 days. His wife and four boys survive him. A short time before he died, after earnestly praying to a prayer answering God, and no doubt the prayers of a christian wife, he was made happy in the love of God. The writer was frequently at his bed side before he died and no doubt remains in our mind that he had the evidence that God had pardoned his sins. He requested us to sing to him about heaven and during the singing he was continually shouting and praising God. He requested his family to meet him in heaven. Near his last words were, "God moves in a mysterious way, his wonders to perform." The funeral was held at the M. E. church conducted by Rev. Knepper. The remains were interred in the Young cemetery. He enrolled in Company F, 20th Regiment of Illinois Volunteers on October 2, 1861. He was discharged September 26, 1862 by reason of disability. The family have the sympathy of the entire community. ------------------------------------------------------------- UGENWEB NOTICE: These electronic pages may NOT be reproduced in any format for profit or presentation by other organiza- tions or persons.
