Feldt Robertson klrob@hotmail.com August 21, 2006, 4:38 pm St. Ansgar Enterprise October 1909 October 18, 1909 Mr. and Mrs. Dreher were married in Hamburg, Germany, in 1859. They came to this country during the time of the Civil War, residing in New York City for a number of years. Here Mr. Dreher worked at his trade of cabinet making, being president of a builder's corporation. Friends wrote to them of the advantages of the new country and about 1869 they moved to Osage where they resided for about five years, thence they moved onto the farm he now owns in this section of the country. Mr. Dreher is seventy-seven years old while his wife is eight years his junior. Both are enjoying average good health and are good for many years yet of married life. They have had twelve children, six boys and six girls. They have thirty-eight grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Of the children, all were present at the golden wedding but two daughters, one residing in Chicago and the other in Minneapolis and one son living in Minnesota. Not often do we find a family like this one. Eleven children, (one girl having died when twelve years of age ) all honest, hardworking, upright young people. Mrs. Dreher proved a stalwart, helpmate; the care of the children having been mostly hers. Sickness entered the family, at one time nine children having been down with typhoid fever, and smallpox also found its way into the circle, besides the other ills customary to childhood days, but she braved the fight and now has good results as a reward for her troubles. Mr. Dreher spoke in German to his children after dinner in which he recalled the years of married like, bringing tears to the eyes of many. He told that, among other things, he had always tried to live an honest and true life, so that he could look every man in the face and be clean and pure from all wrong, and that he hoped his children might be able to say the same when they celebrate their golden weddings. Additional Comments: The Drehers were great-grandparents of the submitter.
