OBITUARY: Della Louise Wambem Assorson, Mitchell County, Iowa Della Louise Wambem Assorson [1887-1979] [St. Ansgar Enterprise, St. Ansgar, Mitchell County, IA -- 16 AUG 1979 ] Della Assorson Funeral Held Here Friday, August 10 Funeral services for Mrs. Della L. Assorson, 92, who died at the St. Ansgar Good Samaritan Center August 7, were held August 10 at the First Lutheran Church here with the Rev. Stephen Engelstad officiating. Della Louise Wambem, Assorson was born on a farm near Hatton, N.D. April 6, 1887, the daughter of Andrew and Anna (Hylden) Wambem. She was baptized by the Rev. C.G.M. Gronlid of Hatton. When she was eight years of age she was confirmed by the Rev. Skattebol. After graduation from high school, Mrs. Assorson taught in a country school at Mullin's Hill, Ala. In 1905 the family moved to St. Ansgar and she began work at the St. Ansgar Bank, remaining at this job for two years. August 29, 1908 she became the bride of Alfred O. Assorson with the Rev. M. E. Waldeland officiating at their wedding. They lived on the Assorson homestead northwest of St. Ansgar, and later moved to St. Ansgar. One son, Glenn Marlin, was born to them. Mrs. Assorson was employed by the St. Ansgar Telephone Company as an operator for 30 years, the last 10 as chief operator. She retired when St. Ansgar converted to the dial system. A member of First Lutheran church here for over 60 years, Mrs. Assorson was active in the Women's Society and Circle of the church. She had been a resident of the Good Samaritan Center here since October of 1974. Mrs. Assorson was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Alfred, and her son, Glenn; two brothers, Lewis and Lloyd, and a sister, Elizabeth Eye. She is survived by a daughter-in-law, Sybil Braun of Yucca Valley, Calif.; two grandsons, David Assorson, Newberry Park, Calif. and Dion Assorson of Yucca Valley, Calif.; two great-grandsons, Scott and Craig Assorson; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Anna Wambem of Cedar Rapids; nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
