OBITUARY: Alvy Herman George Borcherding, Mitchell County, Iowa [ Mitchell County Press-News -- www.mcpress.com -- Posted July 24, 2001 ] Alvy H. G. Borcherding [1909-2001] Funeral services were held Monday, July 23, 2001 at First Lutheran Church, Northwood, for Alvy H.G. Borcherding, age 92, of Northwood. Rev. Paul Holmer officiated and interment was in the Newburg Cemetery, Carpenter, IA. Alvy died July 20, 2001 at the Lutheran Retirement Home, Northwood. Alvy Herman George Borcherding was born January 12, 1909 in Glidden, IA the son of Herman and Anna (Berner) Borcherding. He was baptized Feb. 7, 1909 at St. John's Lutheran Grant Township Church in Lidderdale, IA. He was confirmed on June 1, 1924 at Peace Lutheran Church, Glidden, IA. Alvy attended public schools in Carroll County and worked with his father on the family farm. The family moved to their farm in Deer Creek Township, Worth County in 1934. In 1942, he was drafted into the armed services to serve in World War II. He was stationed at Fort Knox, Kentucky. After returning from the service he married Florence Johnson on June 13, 1946. To this union, two children were born, Ronald and Ruth Ann. Alvy farmed for about 11 years and then moved to Northwood in 1957 and was employed there by several businesses, the most recent being Carroll George. Alvy was a member of the First Lutheran Church and remained a faithful member until the time of his death. Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Florence; brother, Richard; two sisters, Viola and Florence; brothers-in-law, Kenneth Johnson and LaVerne Schallock; nieces Susan and Janine Johnson, and nephew, Jon Olsen. Those that survive him include his son, Ronald and wife, Cathie of Waseca, MN; daughter, Ruth Ann Borcherding of Northwood; sister, Marion Borcherding of St. Ansgar; a brother, Raymond and his wife, Dallas of St. Ansgar; three grandchildren, Richard and wife, Kelly, Jonathan and Molly of Waseca; many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews; brothers-in-law Maynard Johnson of Northwood, Dale Johnson and wife Marge, Charles Johnson and wife Betty, Harley Johnson and wife Clarissa, Ivan Johnson and wife Kathy all of Osage, Keith Johnson and wife Jackie of Fort Dodge; sisters-in-law, Eleanor Schallock, Margaret and her husband Lowell Olson, Mildred and her husband Norman Sponheim all of Osage, Carol and her husband Al McLaughlin of Belmond, Sharon and her husband James Boyce of Roseville, MN, and Frances Johnson of Osage. ************************************************************** Copyright (c) 2001 by Kermit Kittleson.
