OBITUARY: Homer Fiscel, Mitchell County, Iowa [ Mitchell County Press online at www.mcpress.com 5/29/2001 ] Homer Fiscel [1918-2001] Homer Fiscel, age 83, of Friendship Haven, died Tuesday, May 22, 2001 at the Tompkins Memorial Health Center, Fort Dodge, from a stroke. Funeral services were held Saturday, May 26, 2001 at Chapel On the Hill with Rev. Ron Kitterman officiating. Burial was in the Brethren Cemetery, Panora, IA. Gunderson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Homer was born May 19, 1918 in Yale, IA. He attended school in Yale and later Perry, IA where he graduated from Perry High School. On June 30, 1940, he married Lois K. Taylor at Perry. After their marriage, they made their home in Perry. Homer served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1946. After service he returned to Perry and lived their until 1955 when they moved to Osage. He owned and operated a bulk tank delivery company for Sinclair Oil Company. In 1962 they moved to Santa Maria, CA and in 1969 to Fort Dodge where he also ran a bulk tank delivery service. He later worked at Shimkat Motor Co. as an auto salesman until his retirement. In Dec. of 1993 they moved to Friendship Haven. His wife died May 15, 1994 and after her death he continued to live at Friendship Haven. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Fort Dodge, the church choir, Fort Dodge Lions Club, American Legion, he sang in several area Barber Shop quartets. They volunteered at orphanages in both Mexico and Lawndale Community Church in Chicago. He was a member of R.S.V.P. Preceding him in death were: his wife Lois; his parents, Guy and Faye (Smith) Fiscel; an infant daughter Mary Jo; and a brother Galen Fiscel. Those that survive him include his daughter and her husband, Jackie and Keith Johnson of Fort Dodge; a son and his wife Larry and Tina Fiscel of Arroyo Grande, CA; five grandchildren, Tori, Trent, Derrick, Michelle and Sean; two great-grandchildren, Hannah and Rylee; and one nephew, Wayne Fiscel of Des Moines. ************************************************************** Copyright (c) 2001 by Kermit Kittleson.
