OBITUARY: Walter Charles Ruehlow, Mitchell County, Iowa Walter Charles Ruehlow [1909-2001] [Mitchell County Press-News, www.mcpress.com -- Posted Sept. 4, 2001] Funeral services were held Tuesday, September 4, 2001 at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Osage, for Walter Charles Ruehlow, age 92, of Osage. Rev. Christian F. Gugel officiated and interment was in the Osage Cemetery. Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home, Osage, in charge of arrangements. Walter died Thursday, August 30, 2001 at the Faith Lutheran Home, Osage. He was born June 4, 1909 in St. Ansgar the son of Charlie and Ida (Duenow) Ruehlow. He was baptized at St. Peter Lutheran in Toeterville and confirmed at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Rock Township, rural Osage. Walter graduated from Otranto High School in May of 1930. On June 14, 1933 he was united in marriage to Dorothy Mae Beck at her parents' farm northwest of Osage. They made their home on a farm near Osage where they farmed for 60 years until moving to Osage in 1994. Walter also hauled milk for Twin Cedar Dairy. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Osage. During their retirement years, Walter and Dorothy enjoyed spending winters in Florida. His love was playing cards with his many friends and enjoying his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and attending sport events. Walter also enjoyed having a game of cribbage with his grandsons. Preceding him in death was his step-brother, Roy Rachut. Those that survive him include his wife, Dorothy Ruehlow of Osage; a son, Charles Ruehlow and wife, Lois of Osage and their sons, Darwin, Terry, Steve, Michael and James; a daughter, Janice Duenow of Osage and her daughters Laura Duenow and Janelle Dokken; 15 great-grandchildren; a half-sister, Viola Ehlke of Osage.
