OBITUARY: Oscar J. Schroeder, Mitchell County, Iowa (St. Ansgar Enterprise-Journal, St. Ansgar, Iowa; 9 JAN 1992) Oscar J. Schroeder Funeral services were held for Oscar J. Schroeder, 70, January 9 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar. Burial was in the Immanuel Cemetery with full military honors by his comrades of the St. Ansgar Legion Post. He passed away January 7 at Roschester, Minnesota. Oscar J. Schroeder was born August 7, 1921 in St. Ansgar, the son of Oscar G. Schroeder and his wife, Frieda, nee Schroeder. He was baptized into the Christian faith by Pastor Paul Brammer at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar, Sept. 4, 1921 with Ed Mielke and Antonia Schroeder as his sponsors. He confirmed his baptismal vows April 14, 1935, having been instructed by Pastor Brammer and remained a lifelong member of the church. O.J. attended the St. Ansgar schools and graduated from St. Ansgar High School in 1939. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served from 1942 to 1946. He attended Mortuary School in St. Louis, Missouri and graduated in 1948. He was united in marriage to Dorothy McGoon November 28, 1948 at Hampton by the Rev. Dr. Rowley at the Hampton Methodist Church. This union was blessed with two sons, Dwight and Melvin. Mr. Schroeder was involved in the funeral home and furniture store until his retirement in 1981. His hobbies included fishing, early morning golf in his retirement years and gardening. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Melvin G. Schroeder and granddaughter Molly. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy of St. Ansgar; two sons, Dr. Dwight Schroeder and his family of Cedar Rapids and Melvin Schroeder and family, St. Ansgar; five grandchildren, Jonathan, Christopher and Elizabeth Schroeder of Cedar Rapids, and Mitchell and Betsy Schroeder of St. Ansgar. ************************************************************** Copyright (c) 2001 by Kermit Kittleson.
