OBITUARY: Anita L. Suchy, Mitchell County, Iowa [Mitchell County Press-News -- www.mcpress.com -- Posted Aug. 28, 2001] Anita L. (Dettmann) Suchy [1910-2001] Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 29, 2001 at 10:30 am at Our Savior's Lutheran Church for Anita L. Suchy, age 91, with Rev. Dennis Hanson and Rev. Roy Ott officiating. Interment will be in the Osage Cemetery in Osage. Anita died Sunday, August 26, 2001 at the Faith Lutheran Home, Osage. Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home, Osage, is in charge of arrangements. Visitation is Tuesday evening, 6 to 8:30 pm at the funeral home and one hour before the services at the church. Anita was born March 10, 1910 in Tipton, IA to John and Marie (Behrend) Dettmann. She moved with her family to Mitchell County and graduated from Osage High School in 1928. Following graduation she taught rural school and because of her father’s death helped operate the family farm. She was united in marriage to Eugene R. Suchy on August 25, 1938 in Osage. They made their home on the Suchy farm north of Osage where she lived until moving into Osage in 1980. She entered the Faith Home in August 2000. Anita was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School, led Bible studies, served as church librarian and actively participated in WELCA activities, especially stewardship projects. She was a member of Mitchell County Historical Society and served as hostess at the museum for many years. She also belonged to the Shakespearian Club. Anita enjoyed gardening, reading, sewing and needle work. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Eugene in 1972; a brother, John Dettman and an infant sister, Erna; and a sister, Erena Jensen. Those that survive her include a son, Allan J. Suchy and wife, Betty of Osage; a daughter, Ann M. Gerriets and her husband, Dale of Waubay, SD; two grandsons, Michael Gerriets of Clark, SD and Robert Gerriets of Watertown, SD; several nieces and nephews.
