OBITUARY: Arthur Ludwig Karl Baldner, Mitchell County, Iowa [Mitchell County Press-News, online, www.mcpress.com, Posted Oct. 31, 2001] Arthur Ludwig Karl Baldner Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 27, 2001 at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Toeterville, for Arthur L. Baldner, age 97. Burial was in the St. Peter Cemetery, Toeterville. Arthur died in LaCrosse, WI on Oct. 24, 2001. Schroeder and Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar, in charge of arrangements. Arthur Ludwig Karl Baldner was born Jan. 7, 1904 to Phillip and Bertha (Decklever) Baldner on a farm east of Elkton, MN. He was baptized at St. John's Lutheran Church west of Elkton. In 1913 he moved with his family to a farm NE of Toeterville. He was confirmed at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Toeterville. He married Maurine Nelson on May 1, 1938 at the Congregational Church in Osage. In 1941 they purchased their farm NE of Toeterville and they lived there until 1973 when they moved to St. Ansgar. Arthur was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church where he held many offices in the church and helped organize the Lutheran Brotherhood and was the first president for many years. He was on the building committee and sang in the choir. He was also a boys' 4-H Club leader for many years and beef supervisor at the county fair. He served on the Mitchell County Extension and was on the A.S.C., was a member of Farm Bureau and held several offices. He worked for Schroeder and Dunn's Furniture Store. He was on the Maple Manor board and resigned when he was 90 years old. He was very active and involved as a community leader. He was challenged with eye problems for many years and went totally blind in 1989. Art and Maurine spent the winters in Mesa, AZ for 17 years. Preceding him in death were his parents, Phillip and Bertha Baldner; one brother, Irwin and a son-in-law, Andy Payant. Those that survive him include his wife, Maurine of 63 years; two daughters, Audrey (Ronnie) Clausen of Rochester, MN and Carol (Andy) Payant of Tempe, AZ; a son, Gerald (Betty) Baldner of LaCrosse, WI; nine grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, sister-in-law, Iva Nelson of Ames, three nephews and a cousin, Eldon Small of Osage.
