OBITUARY: Lawrence "Larry" Ballhagen, Mitchell County, Iowa [Mitchell County Press-News, online, www.mcpress.com, Posted Dec. 12, 2001] Lawrence "Larry" Ballhagen Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 8, 2001 at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home, Osage for Lawrence W. Ballhagen, age 91, of Osage. Dr. Wes Pippert officiated and interment was in the Riverside Cemetery, Rockford. Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home, Osage, in charge of arrangements. He died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2001 from injuries received in a fire at his home. Lawrence was born southwest of Aredale on Sept. 24, 1910 the son of William T. and Cora Fraisier Ballhagen. He farmed all of his life. He was united in marriage to Irene Marrs on Jan. 20, 1930 in Hampton. During World War II, he was employed by Rock Island Railroad, Deckers Packing Plant and the American Crystal Sugar while still engaged in farming. They lived in Rockford, Manly and Rockwell before moving to Osage in 1973. Lawrence was a former member of the First Congregational Church in Rockwell and was a Farm Bureau member. In lue of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Osage Fire Department and the Mitchell County Ambulance. Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Irene Ballhagen on Dec. 11, 1994, daughter, Sharon Kay Cordle, a granddaughters, Brenda Cordle, great-grandson, Travis Ballhagen, one sister and three brothers. Those that survive him include his daughter, Sandra Pippert and husband, Harold of Mason City; two sons, Donald Ballhagen and wife, Diana of Sheffield, Duane Ballhagen and wife, Shirley of Rockwell; one sister, Luella Dodd and husband, Harold of Hampton; 14 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Good neighbor and special friends Bob Lubbert, Alan Ganshert, Lester Selvig and many friends.
