OBITUARY: Maurice J. Comisky, Mitchell County, Iowa [ Mason City Globe Gazette Online Obituaries ] Monday, May 31, 1999 MAURICE J. COMISKY OSAGE - Maurice J. Comisky, 67, died Saturday (May 29, 1999) at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center, Osage. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Osage, with the Rev. Philip Recker officiating. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery with military rites by members of Osage V.F.W. Post No. 7920. Visitation will be held from 2:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at Champion Funeral Home, Osage, with a rosary beginning at 3 p.m. and a scripture service at 7:30 p.m. Maurice was born April 18, 1932, at the family home in rural Osage, the son of Leo and Charlotte (Kurtz) Comisky. He attended school in New Haven and graduated from Osage High School in 1950 after winning the 118-pound state wrestling championship. After high school, he served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Montrose. He held several jobs, but his true passion was driving a semi. He retired from Ruan Transportation in 1997 after 21 years and more than 1 million miles of safe driving. On Dec. 29, 1962, Maurice was united in marriage with the true love of his life, Janice Arickx. They spent 37 years together, raising and loving their children and grandchildren. Maurice is survived by his wife, Janice (Arickx) Comisky of Osage; two daughters, Colleen Tauke and her husband, Paul, of Douds, Iowa, and Deanna Gard and her husband, Jerry, of Algonquin, Ill.; two sons, James Comisky and his wife, Shelley, of Cedar Rapids, and Jason Comisky of Mason City; his pride and joy, six grandchildren, Joey, Andy and Caitie Tauke, Ian and Ayana Gard and TJ Comisky; five sisters, Mary Larson of Mason City, Maureen Brooker and her husband, Dean, of Osage, Leone Shepherd of Norwalk, Kathleen Laker and her husband, Gerald, of Nakomis, and Dorothy (Doke) Kruse and her husband, Clarence, of Osage; two brothers, his twin brother Marlow Comisky and his wife, Ann, of Elmwood Park, Ill., and Gary (Mick) Comisky of Osage; sister-in-law, Della Cordle of Osage; mother-in-law, Juanita Arickx of Osage; three brothers-in-law, Ray Arickx Jr. and his wife, Carol, of St. Ansgar, Chuck Arickx and his wife, Deb, of Wayne, Neb., and Mark Arickx of Osage; sister-in-law, Wendy Arickx of Mitchell; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
