OBITUARY: Gerald C. Gast, Mitchell County, Iowa [Mitchell County Press-News, online, www.mcpress.com, Posted Dec. 12, 2001] Gerald C. Gast Funeral services were held Sunday, December 9, 2001 at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church, rural Osage, for Gerald C. Gast, age 58, of Kansas City, MO. Rev. R. Dawson Tornes officiated. Burial was in the Rock Creek Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites by the Osage American Legion Post 278. Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home, Osage, in charge of arrangements. Mr. Gast died of cancer on Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2001 at the VA Medical Center in Kansas City, MO. Jerry was born Jan. 4, 1943 in Osage the son of Clyndon and Beatrice (Olsen) Gast. He was baptized and confirmed at Rock Creek Lutheran Church. He attended Osage schools and graduated from Osage High School in 1961. He then attended Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids studying horticulture. After college, he enlisted and served in the U.S. navy. Jerry was a longtime resident of Grandview, MO where he worked for Armour and Montgomery Wards. He loved nature along with his pets. Preceding him in death were his parents, Clyndon and Beatrice Gast; grandparents, Lawrence and Clarice Olsen and Clifford and Alma Gast. Those that survive him include his three sisters, Ann Voelker and her husband, Earl of London, England and their children, Courtney and Eric, Gail Graham and her husband, Tim of Ankeny and their children, Brad and Chad, and Jill Balsley and her husband, Brad of Osage and their children, Derek and Dustin; one brother, Mark Gast and wife, Peggy of Osage and their children, Lacey, Laura, Emily and Natalie.
