OBITUARY: Henrietta M. Howe, Mitchell County, Iowa Henrietta M. Goff Howe [1831-1902] Henrietta M. Goff was born at Howardsville, Oswego county, N.Y., June 18, 1831. Early in childhood she moved with her parents to Ridgefield, Illinois. She united with the Presbyterian Church at Virginia, Illinois, in April, 1848. Twelve years later she transferred her membership to the Congregational church at Osage, Iowa. On February 18, 1858, Miss Goff became the wife of C. C. Howe and enjoyed blessed and contented union until stricken down in death. Mrs Howe was the mother of four children: Barnette E. and Willard O., deceased; Egbert R. Lizzie E. and one stepdaughter, survive the kind and loving mother. In 1860, Mr and Mrs Howe came to Mitchell County where they reared their family and enjoyed the respect of a large friendship circle. A short time since, it was thought necessary for Mrs. Howe to go to Chicago hospital for treatment, which she did two weeks prior to her death. She submitted bravely to a surgical operation, but her strength was not sufficient to withstand the shock and her death occurred last Saturday, Sept. 27. The body of the loved one was brought home for burial last Monday, the funeral occurring the following day at the family home southwest of Osage, Rev. B.C. Preston of the Congregational church, conducting the service. Interment was made in the cemetery near the home where all that mortal of the kind and loving wife and mother was tenderly laid away. Mrs. Howe was one of the oldest in membership in the Osage, Congregational Church. Only six are now living whose entrance in the church membership dates from an earlier period. The bereaved husband and sorrowing family have the sympathy of the entire community in this irreparable separation in the home circle. (September 1902 Osage News.)
