OBITUARY: Edwin B. Griga, Mitchell County, Iowa [Mitchell County Press-News online, www.mcpress.com -- Oct. 24, 2001] Edwin B. Griga Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 25, 2001 at 1:30 in the afternoon at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Osage, for Edwin B. Griga, age 87, of Osage. Rev. Dennis Hanson and Rev. Roy Ott will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Mitchell, IA. Edwin died Monday, October 22, 2001 at Osage Rehabilitation and Health Care Center. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm on Wednesday evening at Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home, 720 State Street, Osage and one hour at the church on Thursday prior to the service. Edwin was born March 9, 1914 the son of Martin and Anna (Valek) Griga at Austin, MN. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter's Ev. Lutheran Church in Greene, IA. He received his education in Mitchell County Schools. On February 12, 1938 he was united in marriage with Anna Marie Bakkum at the Osage Lutheran Church with Pastor T. Solem officiating. To this union, one daughter, Joyce Ann, was born. Edwin spent most of his adult life in Mitchell County. He worked as a day laborer in the onion fields and working for local farmers. In 1966, they moved to their home east of Little Cedar retiring in 1979. Ed’s interests and hobbies were fishing, gardening and helping care for his family and friends whom he loved visiting with. Edwin and his wife were active in the Faith Lutheran Church in Mitchell. In 1998 he transferred his membership to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Osage. In June of 1997, unable to live alone, Ed then lived with Zella Boggess who was a life-long friend for over 50 years. Edwin was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Anna Marie and three brothers, Louis, Rudolph and Frank. Those that mourn the loss of a dear friend, father, grandfather and other family members are: wife Zella Boggess of Osage; daughter, Joyce Clayton and husband David of Clear Lake; two granddaughters, Karen Bast and husband Ron of Armstrong and Janiece Martindale and husband James of Alabama; three grandsons, Jim Naber of Waterloo, Kenneth Naber of Oregon and Kirk Naber of Boone, IA and several great-grandchildren. After meeting Zella, her children became very special to him: three daughters, Judy Wambeam and husband Rodger of Austin, MN, Karen Rodemaker and husband Fred of Northwood, Annette Olesen and husband James of Rudd; two sons, Gary Tidemanson of Charles City and Carl Tidemanson and wife Mary of Greene; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
