OBITUARY: Mary Nelson Hansen, Mitchell County, Iowa Mary Nelson Hansen [1879-1981] [St. Ansgar Enterprise, 29 JAN 1981] Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Hansen, 101, who died at the St. Ansgar Good Samaritan Center January 21, were held January 24 at the Schroeder Funeral Home here with the Rev. Gaylord Grant officiating. Hanna Marie (Mary) Nelson Hansen was born December 6, 1879 in St. Ansgar township, the daughter of Frank and Louisa (Quitzau) Nelson. She was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran church, St. Ansgar, by the Rev. John Olsen. She attended the Spring Valley rural school and the St. Ansgar Seminary. She married J. P. Hansen July 6, 1903 at First Lutheran church here with the Rev. M.E. Waldeland officiating. Three children were born to them. Mrs. Hansen took up dressmaking and general sewing, but always made her family the most important part of her life. She lived most of her life in the Otranto area. Mrs. Hansen is survived by one daughter, Leona of St. Ansgar; one sister; Mrs. Lena Tyrrell of Osage; daughter-in-law, Mrs. Doris Hansen of Stacyville; brother-in-law, Charles Libersky of St. Ansgar; sister-in-law, Annie Nelson of St. Ansgar; one grandson, Jeff Hansen of Otranto; one great-grandson and one great-granddaughter; also nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a daughter, Helen; son, Christian; sister, Laura Libersky and three brothers, Carl, Andrew, and infant Carl.
