OBITUARY: Roy Leonard Hanson, Mitchell County, Iowa [Mitchell County Press online -- www.mcpress.com -- Posted Jan. 9, 2002] Roy L. Hanson Funeral services were held Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2002 at 1:30 pm at Deer Creek Lutheran Church, Carpenter, IA for Roy Leonard Hanson, age 93, of St. Ansgar. Rev. Kathy Larson officiated and burial was in the First Lutheran Church Cemetery, St. Ansgar. Roy died Sat., Jan. 5, 2002 at the North Iowa Mercy Medical Center, Mason City. Roy Leonard Hanson was born Nov. 17, 1908 in Worth County, rural Carpenter, IA to Hans Peter and Lena Severson Hanson. He became a child of God on Dec. 26, 1908 at the Deer Creek Lutheran Church, Carpenter, IA. with the Rev. M.E. Waldeland officiating. He was confirmed on Mar. 16, 1923 by Rev. M.E. Waldeland. Roy graduated from Carpenter High School in 1925 and was the last living member of the class. He never married and lived his life on the farm where he was born and raised. He began renting his cropland in 1978, but continued to raise Hereford Cattle. Roy also served on the board of directors and then as president of Worth County Coop Oil from 1954 to 1975. Preceding him in death were his parents; brothers, Mervin and Alfred; a sister Gilma Hendrickson. Those that survive him include his nieces and nephews and their families, Ivadene Dale of San Jose, CA, Horace Hendrickson and wife Ann of Northwood, Marcella Olson and her husband Ron of Apple Valley, MN, Ardis Sorenson and husband Carroll of Thornton, Duane Hanson and wife Sharon of Thompson, ND, Merle Hanson and wife Jeanette of Northwood, Sharyl Engelhardt and her husband Jon of Adel, IA, Ivanell Howard and her husband Earl of Grandby, CO and Audrey McIntosh and her husband Richard of Jefferson City, MO.
