OBITUARY: Donald Kubicek, Mitchell County, Iowa [Mitchell County Press online -- Posted May 23, 2001] Donald Daryl "Wig" Kubicek Funeral services were held Saturday, May 19, 2001 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Osage, for Donald Daryl "Wig" Kubicek, age 75, Rev. Dennis Hanson and Rev. Roy Ott officiated. Interment was in the Osage Cemetery with Military Rites conducted at the grave by Osage American Legion Post 278 and the Osage VFW Post 7920. Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. "Wig" died Wednesday, May 16, 2001 at Faith Lutheran Home, Osage. Donald was born on a farm near Mcintire on Nov. 5, 1925 the fifth child of John J. and Mary (Bolger) Kubicek. He attended school at Osage and enlisted in the U.S. Navy in April of 1944. He served aboard the U.S.S. Boston, a light cruiser in the Pacific and was honorably discharged in February of 1946. On August 8, 1948 he was united in marriage to Marvel Jane Rowe at Osage Lutheran Church by the Rev. T.P. Solem. To this union were born two children, Dennis Daryl and Kathy Jane. Donald and his wife resided in Osage their entire married life and "Wig" was employed by Carl Hartwig on his dairy farm, Seeber Sand and Gravel, Kark Rendering Company and Decklever Sand and Gravel. In 1960 he was employed by the Iowa Department of Transportation until his retirement in November of 1987. He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Osage, long-time member of the Osage American Legion Post 278, life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7920 and a member of the Charles City Moose Lodge. "Wig" enjoyed bowling, fishing and hunting until his health deteriorated. He had Parkinson's Disease for 17 years. "Wig" is survived by is wife, Marvel of Osage; a son Dennis Kubicek and wife Theresa of Glendale, AZ; two grandchildren Kelly John Kubicek of Glendale, AZ and Amy Jane Kubicek of Phoeniz, AZ; one great-grandson Vincent Thomas Jr. of Phoenix, AZ; one brother, Dale (Pete) Kubicek and his wife Dona of Osage; two sisters Olive Ellis of Charles City, IA and Bonnie Reich of Mason City, IA; two brothers-in-law Lester Rowe and his wife, Dallas of Osage and Alan Rowe and his wife, Phyllis of Port Orchard, WA; and two sisters-in-law Kathleen Rowe of Cedar Rapids, IA and Ruth Kubicek of Osage. "Wig" was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Kathy in 1975; one sister Helen in 1918; two brothers Charles (Sonny) Kubicek in 1960 and Roger (Nick) Kubicek in 1998.
