OBITUARY: Glenn Markham, Mitchell County, Iowa [Mitchell County Press online -- www.mcpress.com -- Posted Jan. 9, 2002] Glenn Markham Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 7, 2002 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Osage, for Glenn W. Markham, age 84, of Osage. Rev. Philip Recker officiated. Interment was in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. Mr. Markham died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2002 at Faith Home in Osage. Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Glenn was born Mar. 24, 1917 in Burr Oak Township, Mitchell County, the son of William O. and Adeline (McGrane) Markham. Glenn attended country schools. He was united in marriage to Shirley Duenow on March 31, 1937. They farmed in Burr Oak Township until 1965 when they moved to Osage. They owned and operated the Plaza Cafe for 17 years until retirement. They have continued to live in Osage. Glenn was a lifetime member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Lions Club, and the Farm Bureau. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Jean Olson; and two sons-in-law, Dean Penney and Tom Blake. Those that survive him include his wife, Shirley Duenow Markham of Osage; five sons, William and wife, Elaine “Dolly” Markham of Albuquerque, NM, Ronald and wife, Kristine, Markham of Parkers Prairie, MN, Richard and wife, Marjorie Markham of Osage, Robert and wife, Kate Markham of Lakeside, CA, Keith and wife, Jessica Markham of Gig Harbor, WA; four daughters, Janice and her husband, John Dempsey of Osage, Barbara Markham of Osage, Joan Blake of St. Ansgar, Patricia and her husband, Roger Karau of Savage, MN; a brother, James Markham and wife, Ruth of The Rock, GA; a sister, Katherine and her husband, Frank Laskos of Oregon, IL; 24 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
