OBITUARY: George W. Pike, Mitchell County, Iowa George W. Pike [1895-1980] [St. Ansgar Enterprise, 10 JUL 1980] Funeral services for George W. Pike, 85, of Northwood, who died June 28 at St. Joseph Mercy hospital, Mason City, were held July 3 at the United Methodist church in Northwood with the Rev. James C. Riley officiating. George Walter Pike was born March 23, 1895 in Worth County, the son of Fred G. and Mary Elizabeth (Nixon) Pike. He grew up in Deer Creek township, Worth county, attended rural school and farmed with his father until he enlisted in the U.S. Army. January 19, 1924 he married Ruth R. Cole. They lived in Fullerton, Calif. for eight years where Mr. Pike was employed in a creamery. Then they returned to Iowa to make their home on a farm in the Deer Creek area until 1968 when they moved to Northwood. Two daughters were born to them. Mr. Pike was baptized at the Christ Episcopal church in Austin, Minn. He united with the United Methodist church, Northwood, March 22, 1970 by certificate of Transfer from the Otranto Community church. He was a member of the Otranto school board for several years, and also was a member of the Ogden-Nelson American Legion Post in carpenter for mamy years. After he moved to Northwood he became a member of the World War I Barracks, Iowa 1593. Mr. Pike had been a resident of the Northwood Lutheran Retirement Home for almost two years. he is survived by this daughters, mrs. Donald (Virginia) Watkins of Fullerton, Calif. and Mrs. Richard (Beverly) Roe of St. Ansgar; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Emil Hansen of St. Ansgar; a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, son-in-law and one sister. Burial was in the St. Ansgar cemetery with the Rev. Riley in charge of committal services.
