OBITUARY: Eugene Ellsworth Thompson [1880-1965], Mitchell County, Iowa Eugene Ellsworth Thompson Funeral Held at Methodist Church Funeral services for Eugene E. Thompson, 85, who died at Northwood Retirement Home on Wednesday, October 13, [1965] were held Friday, October 15 at the St. Ansgar Methodist Church with the Rev. Lloyd Brockmeyer officiating. Eugene Ellsworth Thompson was born March 4, 1880 in Chickasaw County near Nashua and the famous Little Brown Church, the son of Robert K. and Jennie Fitzgerald Thompson. When Eugene was only a few months old his parents moved to a farm near Rockford, Ill. which is now a part of Camp Grant. When he was about five years old his family returned to Bremer County. Here Eugene and seven brothers and sisters were reared. He attended school at Plainfield. In 1901 he was united in marriage to Lucile Holms at Plainfield. To this union two daughters were born. They farmed near Plainfield for a number of years and then he was proprietor of a grocery store in that community for five years. They moved to a farm east of St. Ansgar in 1919 and he lived in the area until his retirement. Mrs. Thompson died in September 1943. He continued to farm until 1947. In 1948 he was married to Mrs. Mina Hirleman. They resided at Battle Creek, Mich. for a year, after which they returned to make their home in St. Ansgar. In November of 1964 he entered the Lutheran Retirement Home at Northwood where he resided until his death October 13 at the age of 85 years, seven months and nine days. He was a member of the St. Ansgar Methodist Church. Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife Lucile; three sisters; and one brother. Surviving are his wife, Mina; two daughters, Mrs. Alvin (Pauline E.) Kroneman of Mitchell, and Mrs. John (Frances) Patterson; three grandchildren, Allan Kroneman grandchildren, and Mark Jean Patterson; also two sisters Mrs. Mattie Wilder of Waterloo, and Mrs. Helm C. Hussner of Appleton Wis.; one brother, Harvey, of Austin, Minn., and several nieces and nephews. Out of town relatives included three step children, Mrs. Glen (Neva) Mitchell of Hilo, Hawaii; Mrs. J. Henry (Dorothy) Parsons of Battle Creek, Mich.; Donald Hileman of Palm Springs, Calif.; Mrs. Gladys Thompson and Mrs. Charles Thompson of Austin.
