OBITUARY: Duane D. Walk, Mitchell County, Iowa [Mitchell County Press-News, online, www.mcpress.com, Posted Sept. 25, 2001] Duane D. Walk [1945-2001] Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 26, 2001 at 1 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, Charles City, for Duane D. Walk, age 56, formerly of Charles City, who died Saturday, Sept. 22, 2001 at his home in Rochester, MN. Rev. Dennis Niezwaag is officiating. Duane D. Walk was born Aug. 5, 1945 in Mason City. He attended Little Cedar school and graduated from Osage High School in 1963. He was employed by the Osage Lumber. On May 2, 1965 he married his wife, Carolyn at St. John's Lutheran Church, rural Osage. In 1967 he started and established the fertilizer application facilty for Tuloma products in Charles City. The family moved to Charles City in 1969 when Duane became Standard Oil bulk fuel products agent. In 1976 he purchased the jobbership from Amoco. In 1983 he oversaw the razing of the old bulk plant and built Walk Mini Mart convenience store in Charles City. He sold that business in 1989 and in 1991 he went to work for Richard Motors Ltd as a car salesman, sales manager and general manager. He followed with several other sales ventures. Upon moving to Rochester, MN he was employed by Menards south until his retirement in Sept. 2000. Duane was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Charles City. He was a former member of the Elks Club, Charles City and a volunteer fire fighter in Osage and Charles City. Those that survive him include his wife Carolyn Walk of Rochester, MN; three children, Daren (Amy) Walk and Jim (Linda) Walk of Rochester, Mark (Kim) Walk, Nashua; one brother Larry (Louise) Walk of Little Cedar; four grandchildren, Alex and Cory Walk of Rochester, MN; Austin and Taylor Walk of Nashua.
