OBITUARY: Hilma E. Schmidt Borcherding, Mitchell County, Iowa [Mitchell County Press-News, online, www.mcpress.com, Posted May 29, 2002] Hilma E. Borcherding Funeral services for Hilma E. Borcherding, age 85, of Sun City, AZ, formerly of Osage were held Thursday, May 23, 2002 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar, with Pastor Byron Northwick officiating. Burial was in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in St. Ansgar. Hilma died Saturday (May 18, 2002) at Hospice of the Valley in Sun City, AZ. Hilma E. Schmidt was born to Otto and Bertha Schmidt on March 19, 1917, in Garner, Hancock County. She attended school at St. John's Lutheran Church School in Garner. On Nov. 6, 1937, she married Wilbert F. Borcherding at St. John's Lutheran Church in Garner. They farmed around Hampton until 1950 when they moved to Lyle, MN. They farmed there until they retired to St. Ansgar in 1985. Mrs. Borcherding moved to Sun City, AZ in 2001. She enjoyed gardening, sewing and was well known for her beautiful quilting. She was a member of the Deborah Circle and of the Mona Garden Club. Hilma was preceded in death by her husband Wilbert Borcherding; a daughter Carol Mildenstein; her parents and 11 siblings. Survivors include three daughters, Yvonne Bohlman, of Sun City, AZ, Joyce (Roger) Drake, of Rochester, MN and Elaine "Billie" Schrader of Mesa, AZ; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
