OBITUARY: Esther Marie Hartogh 1909-2002, Mitchell County, Iowa [Mitchell County Press-News, online, www.mcpress.com, Posted Oct. 16, 2002] Esther Marie Hartogh A Mass of Christian burial, with Rev. John Hemann officiating, was held Saturday, Oct. 12, 2002 at Immaculate Conception Church in Elma for Esther Marie Hartogh, 93, of Elma. She died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002 at Colonial Manor in Elma of natural causes. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery in Riceville. Esther Marie Hartogh was born Feb. 23, 1909, at Meyer, IA, the daughter of Nicholas John and Rachael (Goergen) Mueller. She received her schooling in Meyer. Esther was united in marriage Oct. 6, 1931 to J. Michael Hartogh in Meyer. Following their marriage they farmed in the Mitchell County area until retiring in 1974 when they moved to Elma. She was a 4-H leader for 25 years and was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Elma where she was an active rosary society member. Esther enjoyed 4-H projects, gardening, canning, sewing and refinishing furniture. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband J. Michael, three brothers Francis, Raymond and Carl, two sisters Rose Durben and Agnes Bees and a daughter-in-law Sandra Hartogh. Survivors include six children Janet (Jerry) Mannng of LeMars, Arlene (Joseph) Thome of Waterloo, Leon (Mary) Hartogh of Sauk Village, IL, Frances (Jerry) Lamerson of White Lake, MI, Bernard Hartogh of Elkhart, IN, Kenneth (Sue) Hartogh of Bristol, IN, 26 grandchildren, 36 great- grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, four brothers, Arnold Mueller of Sheldon, Paul Mueller of highland Park, IL, Bill Mueller of Prescott Valley, AZ, Reynold Mueller of Des Moines, a sister Martha Duebner of Arlington Hts, IL, two sisters-in-law Mary Koenigs of Pontiac, MI and Louise Mueller of Dallas, TX.
