OBITUARY: Frances A. Kobliska Smalley, Mitchell County, Iowa [ Mitchell County Press-News online -- Posted Sept. 4, 2002 ] Frances A. Smalley Funeral services were held for Frances A. Smalley, age 88, of Osage and formerly of Orchard on Saturday, August 31, 2002 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in New Haven. Rev. Ray E. Atwood officiated. Interment was in St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery in New Haven. Frances died Thursday, August 29, 2002 at Mitchell County Regional Health Center in Osage. Frances A. Smalley was born July 25, 1914 in rural Alta Vista, IA, the daughter of Joseph and Emma (Koudelka) Kobliska. She was united in marriage to Melburn Smalley on November 14, 1933, in Charles City. They farmed the Smalley family farm near Orchard until 1988, when they retired. They continued to live on the farm until 1998 and then moved to the Evergreen Retirement Home in Osage. She was a lifetime member of NABA and a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in New Haven and the Altar Society. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Melburn A. Smalley in 2001; two sisters Helen Smalley and Arlene Greenwood. Frances is survived by three daughters Janet Penney and her husband Gregg of Minneapolis, MN; Karen Fox and her husband Ivo of Orchard; Joyce DuShane and her husband Neal of Fort Collins, CO, six grandchildren, Debra Miller and her husband Steven of Minneapolis, MN; Stephen Penney of Minneapolis, MN, John Fox and his wife Susan of Minneapolis, MN, Mike Fox of Mason City, Chuck Fox and his wife Jo of Bloomington, IL, Dr. Dianna Fox of Indianapolis, IN, four great-trandchildren, Dustin and Cody Fox of Bloomington, IL, Emma and Patrick Fox of Minneapolis, MN, three sisters, Amy Hennagir of Charles City, Pauline Nockels and husband Don of Mesa, AZ and Lorraine Talyat of Pismo Beach, CA.
