OBITUARY: Grace Naoma Earl Lafferty 1913-2002, Mitchell County, Iowa [Mitchell County Press-News, online, www.mcpress.com, Posted Oct. 16, 2002] Grace Naoma Earl Lafferty Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 14, 2002 at the St. Ansgar United Methodist Church for Grace Naoma Earl Lafferty, 89, who died Friday, Oct. 11, 2002 at St. Ansgar Good Samaritan Center, St. Ansgar, IA. The Rev. Jay Amundson officiated. A graveside service was held in the afternoon, at Fairview Cemetery, Oakland, MN. Grace was born Aug. 11, 1913 in Freeborn County, MN to Casper and Lilly (Lerum) Earl. She graduated from Austin High School and Mankato State College (Minnesota State University-Mankato) and started teaching in 1932 in Freeborn County Country Schools. Earl taught in Lansing, Lyle and Hayfield Schools (Brownsdale) before retirement in 1978. She lived most of her adult life in Austin, MN before moving to St. Ansgar in 2001. On Dec. 28, 1939, she married John D. Lafferty in Austin, MN. Grace enjoyed reading and playing bridge. A special treasure were the memory of her many trips to Ontario, Canada to fish with her family and friends. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and Aunt and will be missed by her family. Preceding her in death were her husband, parents, five brothers and four sisters. Survivors include her son, Dr. John D. and Rebecca Lafferty of St. Ansgar, her grandchildren Jill Lafferty and her husband Alan Pierce of Golden Valley, MN and Anne Lafferty of Minneapolis, one sister Anna Arett of Austin, nieces, nephews and cousins.
