OBITUARY: Karen K. Maakestad, Mitchell County, Iowa Karen K. Maakestad [Mitchell County Press News online -- Posted May 15, 2002] Funeral services for Karen K. Maakestad, 62, of Clarksville, formerly of Osage, were held Wednesday at Faith Lutheran Church in Mitchell, with the Rev. Rose Marie Nack officiating. Interment was in Oak Grove Cemetery in Mitchell. Karen died Saturday (May 11, 2002) at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo. Maakestad was born March 16, 1940, in Osage the daughter of Louie and Margaret (Lonergan) Kindschuh. She graduated from Osage High School. Karen married Lowell Gene Maakestad in Mitchell. A daughter, Lori (Maakestad) Krull was born to this union. Karen was employed as a nurse throughout the midwest during her career as an L.P.N. The last 10 years she was employed at the Waverly Municipal Hospital in Waverly. She enjoyed craftwork, sewing, antiques and rummage sales. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband Lowell; daughter Lori Krull and a brother Ronnie Kindschuh. Karen is survived by her best friend Mike Krull of Clarksville; two granddaughters Cody Lenz and her son Dyvante Smith of Tarpon Springs, FL and Cheyenne Rose Krull of Osage; a grandson Lucas L. Krull of Osage; a son-in-law John Krull of Osage; a sister Marlene Wagner and husband Bob of Mitchell; a brother Richard Kindschuh and wife Rose of San Antonio, TX and many uncles, aunts and cousins.
