OBITUARY: Wilma Ruth Thompson Perkins, Mitchell County, Iowa Wilma Ruth Perkins [Mitchell County Press-News online - 10 APR 2002 - www.mcpress.com ] Funeral services for Wilma Ruth Perkins, age 88, were held Monday, April 8, 2002 at the Deer Creek Lutheran Church, Carpenter, IA. The Rev. Kathy Larson officiated with burial in the Deer Creek Cemetery. Wilma died April 4, 2002 at the Muse Norris Inpatient Unit, Mason City, IA. Perkins was born on October 24, 1913 in Northwood, IA to Sam O. and Marie (Allanson) Thompson. She graduated from Northwood High School and received a teaching certificate from Iowa State Normal College in Cedar Falls, IA. She taught school in rural Worth County for several years. Wilma and Clinton (Happy) Perkins were married in St. Ansgar, IA August 21, 1937. She enjoyed her life as a homemaker and helper to her husband on the various farms they lived on in Worth and Mitchell County. She was a bookkeeper for the Deer Creek Cheese Factory, an expert seamstress, an active member of Deer Creek Lutheran Church, where she sang in choir, member of the woman’s quartet, circle leader and held various offices in the Ladies Aid. For several years she served as Christmas Seals township chairwoman, was active in the Republican Party, Worth County Farm Bureau Women, Carpenter Friendship Club and participated on a bowling team. Wilma enjoyed music and encouraged her daughters in piano, instrumental and vocal music. Playing cards was a favorite pastime. Wilma was preceded in death by her parents, husband Clinton and sister Fern Thompson. She is survived by her five daughters, Carol (Lloyd) Tinkey of Yankton, SD, Doreen ((Duane) Dorenkamp of Sheffield and Lansing, IA, Eileen Brunsvold of Clear Lake, IA, Nancy (Richard) Vaught of Greer, SC, Barbara (Dale) Eppens of Clear Lake, IA; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and 2 great- great-grandchildren. Memorials may be sent to Deer Creek Lutheran Church, Carpenter, IA. Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, Northwood, IA, was in charge of arrangements.
