OBITUARY: William D. Stanton, Mitchell County, Iowa (1966) WILLIAM STANTON, 77 DIED IN CHARLES CITY Funeral services were held Sept. 1, at a Charles City funeral home for William Stanton, 77, who died at the hospital there Aug. 30. (1966). Mr. Stanton is a former resident of Mitchell County. William D. Stanton was born in Mitchell County, April 15, 1889, the son of John and Hannah Lynch Stanton. On retiring from the farm near Riceville Mr. Stanton moved to Cowell in 1951, where he was employed as a custodian at the Memorial Gardens in Charles City. His marriage to Elsa Billyard took place in Charles City, Jan. 24, 1912. She survives as do their four daughters, Mrs. George Templeton, Hazel of Le Roy; Mrs. Stanley Setka, Ruth of Riceville; Mrs. Richard McDonald, Betty, of Waverly; Mrs. Ernest Monroe, Mardee, of Charles City; 13 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and one sister Mrs. Mary Kent of Milwaukee.
