OBITUARY: Gerald W. Adams, 1939-2003, Mitchell County, Iowa Gerald W. Adams [Mitchell County Press-News online - Posted Mar. 19, 2003] Funeral services for Gerald W. Adams, age 63, of Osage and formerly Stacyville were held Monday, March 17, 2003 at Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville with Father Mark Reasoner officiating. Interment was in Visitation Catholic Cemetery in Stacyville. Gerald died Tuesday, March 11, 2003 at his home. Gerald W. Adams was born May 10, 1939 in Stacyville the son of Benedict F. and Caroline (Weber) Adams. He attended and graduated from Visitation School in Stacyville. After graduation he worked with his father in the family business Adams Motor Company, in Stacyville and took ownership of the business when his father retired in 1967. Gerald closed the car dealership in the mid 1980s and he and his brother Melvin converted the space to a four-lane bowling alley called Imperial Lanes. Gerald ran that business from 1987 until he sold it in 1994. He then moved to Osage and worked at Cooper's Osage Chrysler as a bookkeeper. He retired last year and had enjoyed retirement with his family and friends. Gerald was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage, the Catholic Order of Foresters and the Austin Eagles Club. As an Eagles member Gerald hosted many fund raising events in Stacyville as part of their annual Cancer Telethon. Gerald opened his home as a host to two foreign exchange students from Bulgaria. Mitko Mitev graduated from Osage High School and has returned to Bulgaria. Miroslav Jelev graduated from NIACC and is currently attending college in Pennsylvania. Because of Miro's involvement in the boxing club of Rudd. Gerald became involved with the Hummel Boxing Club of Rudd. He also enjoyed going out to eat with friends, spending time with family and chatting on-line. Gerald was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Raymond and Melvin. He is survived by one sister-in-law Jennie Adams of Osage; five nieces: Pat (John) Fisher of Dale City, VA; Mar Adams of Osage; Colleen Upton of Garden Grove, CA; Sue (Don) Weber of Stacyville; Liz (Rick) Stevens of Osage; one nephew Mike Adams of Osage; eight great-nieces and nephews and three great-great-nieces and nephews.
