OBITUARY: Mrs. Maria (Knapp) Babcock, 1833-1910, Mitchell County, Iowa BABCOCK Mrs. Maria Babcock, whose maiden name was Knapp, was born in Clinton County, N. Y., on March 12, 1833 and passed away after a brief illness at her home in Osage on December 23, 1910. She was married to D.H. Babcock January 8, 1851. The early years of their married life were spent in central Wisconsin, but in 1856 they came to Mitchell county, and located on a farm in Burr Oak township. This was their home until a few years ago when they moved to Osage to enjoy the declining years of life. Mrs. Babcock is survived by her husband, three daughters and two sons, one son having died at the age of 16. The children living are: Mrs. Frank Chase of Des Moines, Mrs. Hart Walker of Seattle; Miss Alice, who has remained at home, and sons Earnest of Alaska and Bert of Washington. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon at the home, conducted by the Rev. F.W. Court of the Methodist Episcopal church of which Mrs. Babcock was a member. The interment was in the Osage Cemetery.
