OBITUARY: Phyllis Eileen Thompson Barker, 1927-2003, Mitchell Co., Iowa [ Mitchell County Press-News online - Mar. 26, 2003 - www.mcpress.com ] Phyllis Eileen Barker Funeral services for Phyllis Eileen Barker, age 75, of Little Cedar were held Friday, March 21, 2003 at the United Methodist Church in Osage. The Reverend Jay Amundson and Reverend Karen Nichols Dungan officiated. Interment was in the Osage Cemetery. Phyllis died Tuesday, March 18, 2003 at the MCRHC-Hospice in Osage. Phyllis was born August 16, 1927 in Hutchins, IA to Dale and Marion (Francis) Thompson. She attended a country school in Sexton, IA, a school in Algona, IA and graduated from Rudd High School in 1945. She graduated from Pixie's Beauty School in Waterloo, IA. She worked at Hansen's Beauty Shop in Osage, before opening her own business, "Phyllis's Beauty Shop," in Osage which she ran for five years. Phyllis married Gregory Barker on July 15, 1951 at the United Methodist Church in Osage. They made their home south of Little Cedar. Phyllis was a member of the Little Cedar United Methodist Church, where she was an active member of her church circle. She also was a member of the "Just A Mere Club." Preceding Phyllis in death were her parents and two brothers-in-law Darrell Sletten and Charles Young. Her survivors include her husband Gregory Barker of Little Cedar; daughter Linda (Neil) Schroeder of St. Ansgar; three sons Galen (Audrey) Barker, Gorden (Kim) Barker, Glen (Carrie) Barker all of Osage; nine grandchildren Martin (Allison) Schroeder of Scottsdale, AZ; Stacy Schroeder of Ames; Garrett, Brittany, Dustin, Colin, Brandon, Brett and Breana Barker all of Osage; a sister Shirley Sletten of Osage; two brothers Dean (Irene) Thompson of Osage; Marvin (Pat) Thompson of Mason City; one brother-in-law Dean (Charlotte) Barker of Osage; one sister-in-law Helen Young of Osage and many nieces and nephews.
