OBITUARY: Mary D. Counsell, 1925-2003, Mitchell Co., Iowa [Mitchell County Press-News online - www.mcpress.com - Posted Feb. 19, 2003] Mary D. Counsell Funeral services for Mary D. Counsell, age 77, formerly of Osage, were held Saturday, February 15, 2003 at the Champion - Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage, with the Rev. Philip Recker officiating. Interment was in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Osage. She died Wednesday, February 12, 2003, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City. Mary was born in Washington D.C. on June 25, 1925, the daughter of Percy and Julia (Burke) Murray. She met and later married Carlin Counsell on December 17, 1950. They farmed for 23 years near New Haven and were the parents of 5 children; Ann, Sharon, Michael, Nancy and Susan. She sold Watkins and Avon products. She was preceded in death by her parents. Mary is survived by four daughters: Ann Steenhard and husband Alan of Mason City; Sharon Counsell and friend Scott Watson of Mason City; Nancy Goebel and husband Jerry of Oskaloosa; Susan Hyke and husband Kenny of Cresco; a son Michael Counsell and wife Penny of Osage; two sisters, Jean Moore of Washington D.C. and Margaret Hemann and husband DeVere of Keokuk; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
