OBITUARY: Therese Durben Halbach, 1960-2003, Mitchell Co., Iowa [Mitchell County Press-News, online, www.mcpress.com, Posted 5 FEB 2003] Therese Halbach Funeral services for Therese Halbach, age 42, of Stacyville, IA were held Saturday, February 1, 2003 at Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville. Reverend Mark Reasoner officiated. Burial was in Visitation Cemetery, Stacyville. Therese passed away Wednesday, January 29, 2003 at her home. Therese Halbach was born July 16, 1960 in Osage, IA to Lester and Ann (Runde) Durben. She graduated from St. Ansgar High School and then completed the Floriculture Program at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, IA. She worked at a flower shop in Grinnell, IA for three years. She married Ed Halbach on September 11, 1982 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Meyer, IA. Ed and Therese started Ed's Floral, a retail and wholesale plant business in 1981. In 1986 they opened another full service retail Flower Shop in LeRoy, MN. Therese was a long-time board member of the St. Ansgar Dollar for Scholars. She was respected in the community for countless volunteer hours at the nursing home, fund raisers and civic events. She was active in the Visitation Church Christian Mothers and kept the church beautiful with flowers. Her floral- design talents touched many people's lives as did her smile, kindness and compassion. Her personality was an expression of her sincerity. Therese enjoyed gardening, reading, entertaining and visiting with family and friends. She will be dearly missed by her many close friends and family. Preceding Therese in death were her paternal grandparents Arthur and Louise Durben, maternal grandparents Theodore and Pauline Runde and father-in-law Jerome Halbach. She is survived by her husband Ed of Stacyville, IA; her parents Ann and Lester Durben of Meyer, IA, three sisters Sheila Durben of Meyer, IA; Brenda Jensen, her husband Del, and their two children Ami and Alex of Plymouth, MN; Marlene Weis, her husband Rob and their three children Brittany, Willie and Ben of Meyer, IA. She was also admired and loved by her mother-in-law Monica Halbach of Stacyville, IA; three sisters-in-law, Jeanne Traaseth, her husband Pete and daughter Leah of Brooklyn Park, MN, Angie Kruger and daughter Stacey of St. Ansgar, IA, Paula Halbach of Minneapolis, MN; two brothers-in-law Joe Halbach, his wife Deb and their two daughters Danielle and Jackie of Coon Rapids, MN, Mark Halbach and his wife Teresa of Glenville, MN.
