OBITUARY: Becky Marie (Gruhn) Dockstader, Mitchell County, Iowa [Mitchell County Press-News online -- Posted January 22, 2003] Becky Marie Dockstader (Gruhn) Funeral services for Becky Marie Dockstader (Gruhn) 73 of St. Ansgar, IA were held Monday, January 20, 2003 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar. The Reverend Byron Northwick officiated. Burial was in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, St. Ansgar. She died Wednesday, January 15 at her home in St. Ansgar. Becky (Beck) was born January 15, 1930 to Fred and Gertrude (Becker) Gruhn in Manning, IA. She graduated from Spirit Lake High School in 1947 and received her nursing degree from Iowa Lutheran School of Nursing in Des Moines. She went to work in Fort Dodge for a time. Doc and Becky met on a blind date and it was a year before he could catch up with her. They married on April 18, 1953 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Spirit Lake, IA. Following Doc's graduation in 1955 they moved to New Orleans, then returned to St. Ansgar in August of 1957. Becky served on the school board and was an AEA member as well. She was many a pets' friend and remembered their names more often than their owners. She will be greatly missed and held close in the hearts of her family as we celebrate her life as a love that will never die. Becky was preceded in death by her husband, W. Edson (Doc) Dockstader, one brother, Donald Gruhn and one granddaughter Molly Schroeder. She is survived by six daughters, Chris and her husband Larry Wadman of Annandale, MN, Julie and her husband Melvin Schroeder of St. Ansgar, Mary and her husband Al Sommerfeld of Derby, KS, Holly and her husband Rick Schwarck of St. Ansgar, Kelly and her husband Sean Shanahan of Hull, MA, Wendie Dockstader of Iowa City, IA; two sons, Peter Dockstader of St. Ansgar and John and his wife Lisa Dockstader of St. Ansgar, 15 grandchildren who were blessed with her kindness and gentleness, two sisters Dorthy and her husband Darial Detterman of Milford, IA and Marge Linquist of Lakewood, CO.
