OBITUARY: Emma Elsie (Scheffel) Kvale, 1896-1981, Mitchell County, Iowa [St. Ansgar Enterprise, 26 FEB 1981] Mrs. Emma Kvale Funeral Held In Austin February 19 Funeral services for Mrs. Emma E. Kvale, 84, of Lyle, who died February 16 at St. Olaf hospital, Austin, Minn., were held February 19 at Our Savior’s Lutheran church in Austin with the Rev. Knutson officiating. Emma Elsie Kvale was born November 30, 1896 in Mitchell county, the daughter of Matthew and Matilda Scheffel. The family then moved to a farm west of Lyle where she was baptized at London Lutheran church and attended school at Woodbury. She married John Kvale February 26, 1925. They spent their entire married life in Lyle township, and six children were born to them. Mrs. Kvale was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran church, Austin, and also was an active member of Woodbury Willing Workers, Royal Neighbors and Lyle Senior Citizens. Mrs. Kvale is survived by one daughter, Mrs. LuVerne (Velmajean) Roberts; one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Lester (Eloise) Foss; one sister, Mrs. Erma Ball; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Nettie Scheffel and Mrs. Julia Scheffel; six grandchildren, Mrs. Steven (Nancy) Blood; Mrs. Donald (Karen) Whalen; Mrs. Terry (Linda) Mayer; Dale Roberts; Mrs. Brian (Marilyn) Paine; Mrs. Laurie Winters; also 16 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, John; four sons, Leonard, Roger, Paul and baby Kvale; one daughter, Dorothy; one grandson, Bruce; three brothers, Matthew, Herbert and Roy. Burial was in Woodbury cemetery near Lyle with Rev. Knutson in charge of committal services.
