OBITUARY: Thomas Norton, c1812-1894, Mitchell County, Iowa [Source: Mitchell County Press-News or Mason City Globe Gazette] Death of Thomas Norton Thomas Norton died at his home at New Haven Iowa, October 28, (1894) at advanced age of 82 years, leaving an aged wife and large family to mourn his loss. He was born in Ireland, county of Roscommon, where he spent the early part of his life and in 1848 he with his family emigrated to America. He spent two years in New York state and in 1850 he settled at Portage City, Wisconsin, where he lived until 1873 when he moved to Mitchell County, Iowa, where he remained until his death. He was buried from St. Peter's church, Rev. Father Gillchrist officiating, and a large concourse of friends and relatives followed his remains to the last resting place, on Tuesday morning.
