OBITUARY: Welcome E. Payne, 1897, Mitchell County, Iowa #1 WELCOME E. PAYNE The many friends of Welcome E. Payne will grieve to hear of his death which occurred Monday, after a long and serious siege of blood poisoning. His Christian character and native traits of honor and kindness had won for him a high place in the hearts of the people. We know it is well with him so our sympathy extends especially to the bereaved wife and family. The tender mercies of the all wise Father be about them. (April 1, 1897 Mitchell Co. Press.) #2 Death of W. E. Payne Our St. Ansgar Correspondent reports the death of W.E. Payne on Monday afternoon. He had been sick for several months from a tumor which resulted in blood poisoning and finally terminated his life. The funeral services were held yesterday. Mr. Payne was a young man of high character. Much sympathy will go out to his young wife and other relatives.
