OBITUARY: Pearl Powers, Mitchell County, Iowa

	MISS PEARL POWERS SUFFERS FATAL BURNS

Private funeral rites for an Osage woman, Mrs. Pearl Powers, were held
Tuesday morning at the Champion Funeral Home in Osage. Miss Powers died
Sunday after being burned Saturday as she was preparing the morning meal
for herself and her sister.  In reaching across the gas stove in the family
kitchen, Miss Power's clothing became ignited.

Her sister attempted to help put out the fire, and also was able to summon
help by telephone.

The Rev. Wesley Anderson, pastor of the Baptist Church in Osage, was in
charge of the services. Burial was in the Osage cemetery.

Pearl Marcia Powers was born at Charles City and moved to their present
home northwest of Osage when she was small child.  She was daughter of
Alvin and Etta Drew Powers. 

She attended local rural schools, Carleton college in Northfield, Minn.;
and a college of music in St. Paul.  She taught music in public schools
for many years.

Miss Powers is survived by her sister, Mrs. Edith, who remains on the
family farm.

Preceding her in death were her parents, one sister Margaret (Tena), who
taught in the Osage schools, one brother Robert, and two sisters who died
in infancy.
